CAR SCAM PLEASE BEWARE

I was thinking of trading in my old car and getting a more powerful one and went to(carsguide.com.au) to find one, came across 4 Nissan Patrols from year 2001 to 2005 4x4 with all the bells and whistles and thought $12,000 to 14,000 was just too good to not check out, well you guest it a BIG Scam according to the W.A. government, so please all be on your gaurd if you are in the market for a new car.

Thanks for the tip off one of the other big car sales online sites was hit too by scammers, you have to be aware of any online sales places now.

I frequently use Gumtree and always get a few who try on there too. When you advertise, you have a choice of just using email to reply to or your mobile or home phone as well. Always use the email only to advertise, it has to go through Gumtree who onforward the enquiry or reply without revealing your email address to or from via them.

The scammers know the can track it, so if a mobile is shown they will sms that and say they could not get through to Gumtree email and could you email them on their email address, usually a gmail or hotmail. If you look at the sms they send you can usually see that their mobile number is an overseas one. Best to just not use mobile or home phone as a contact at all, and if email replies do not come from Gumtree ignore them.....

Well  Duh, you have to enter your phone # and name and email before you can get any info on the car you are looking at and that is carsguide.com.au not the seller asking, the people trying to con me sent me another email were to pay and thats when I thought the site was a fake one, got a second email from some mob in the UK wanting to lend me money, I knew something was up then as you cannot borrow money in the UK from Australia, so passed it on the the Consumer Watch people in W.A. and they confirmed the SAM!biggrin
