We have the Dometic (Eberspacher) single outlet diesel heater with a digital controller in our 15.5 van. Gas units were not available when we had ours installed.
We rarely have the controller set above halfway and the van is certainly warm enough. We dont run the heater overnight as we prefer the colder air for sleeping so the unit is switched off as we go to bed. The controller is positioned next to the bedhead so when we wake in the morning it is just a matter of pressing the button and within 30 mins the van is quite warm.
From what I have read on other forums those with the larger vans have the two outlet models with many having the second outlet in their ensuite area.

Graeme; wish we had a diesel one as well, two of our friends have them in their 23ft bushtrakas, two heat vents in the floor & work very well & economical.

Gerty the diesel heater kits come with an exhaust muffler.
However most of noise generated by these heaters with the exhaust muffler fitted is via the air intake to the furnace, particularly when first started. It really roars as the air is sucked in.
When we purchased and fitted the special filter/silencer to the air intake it was like an 80% reduction in noise as the heater fired up. Do not understand why these units are sold without the air intake silencer.
Interesting re the ban on diesel heaters at night by some Caravan Parks. Some of the reverse cycle air conditioners we have come across also generate a fair bit of noise in the still of the night.
Can I ask where you picked up the air intake silencer from ?
One of the best/cheapest places to get parts for Diesel heaters is from the e-bay seller in Turkey. They get a lot of business from Australian Caravan/Motorhome forum members.
This air filter/silencer is a little different from the one I purchased a few years back, but should do the job. http://tinyurl.com/9yuuw3w
