We have had our Jayco Sterling now for 10 1/2 months.
We are just about to put the van in for the fourth time to get the same warranty work done, "again", which occured to the van on the way home from being picked up from the Dealer in Brisbane.
Warranty runs out in 1 and 1/2 months, what happens then.
We live in Townsville and when we ring up to get some repairs done on the van, the first question they ask us is "Did you buy the van from us". When we say no, we are told we can't fit you in, for times up to a month and a half. I understand Dealers should look after their customers first.
This is our first caravan and probably our last!!!!!
I would like to think that we are the odd ones out, but if anyone has some reasurring advice, it would be appreciated.
Oddly enough, our experience with Jayco warranty work is the other way round, Spooner. It takes up to 8 weeks to get anything done at the local dealer from whom we bought it, and yet in Darwin we had a serviceman come to the caravan where we were parked within a week. Make sure you tell them when you book it in that the problem occurred while it was still under warranty. Some caravan owners have horror stories about having to tow their caravan to its place of manufacture for repairs, at least its a bit better than that with Jayco. If only it didnt need so many little things fixed!!
It's an unfortunate fact that this is very common with new Jayco vans. Don't let it put you off the lifestyle. You must remind the repairer of your experiences with this problem. If it's a recurring warranty problem you might want to contact Jayco in Melbourne or wherever you bought the van to keep the issue as a priority because the repair work should also be guaranteed. Keep remind them every time you experience this problem. All the best with this. Just keep on them. Hassle, hassle, hassle. Don't let them get away with anything. As with all warranty work as a result of faulty workmanship, keep at them. Any repair work should have some sort of warranty no matter when it happened in the life of the van.

I have found Jayco head office very helpful but there are some questionable dealers out there if you contact Jayco and tell them your issues and ask them to identify a suitable dealer to carry out the maintenance, also remember the liability under consumer law does not stop the day the company warranty runs out there is a legal requirement that the product must be fit for the purpose it was sold for and must meet reasonable expectation, what I have just said is the gist of the law and Consumer affairs can give you the fine detail, But I think if you explain your concern Jayco will try to resolve your issues.
Good Luck

I have friends who own a Jayco and they had a minor warranty issue that arose shortly before the expiry. The phoned Jayco and the Jayco rep told them that as it had been reported to them prior to the warranty expiring that the warranty would be still honoured in relation to this issue if they were unable to have it attended to in the meantime.
For geographical reasons they had their warranty issues attended to at Jayco service agent other than where they purchased it and to the best of my knowledge they have had no problems.
Jayco have a pretty good name for after service / warranty issues . I would ring their head office if I was in your shoes .
We have a Retreat van , and had trouble with a leaking roof hatch . We were in central Qld. , and a long way from the only Qld. dealership , so we called Retreat in Melbourne and they arranged to have the repairs done at a caravan repair place near where we were .
It was fixed the next day at no cost to us and has been fine ever since .
I reckon Jayco would be able to arrange the same sort of thing in your situation .

we bought our jayco in townsville and are lucky we only had a few problems fixed when we first bought the van 2 years ago and have had no problems since.friends recently bought one in brisbane, have heaps of problems and cannot get it repaired in townsville.they have had to take their van to cairns for warranty repairs.it's quicker to get work done when on the road than going to your local dealer.
do what we did when we had trouble with our second hand dealer purchased van we rang accc consumer affairs and threatened to take it to current affairs. they picked it up the next day and fixed more than what was needed
With our last Jayco we had a few minor problems we took it to a repairer recomended by jayco had to wait 2mths to get it in but they fixed it under warranty. Spooner get in touch with your dealer and they should tellyou who to take it to,they have good after sales service i have found, and if you report the problem before the warranty runs it should be done even after expiry date..
We have a Jayco (our second) & are traveling in it full time. From the very start we had problems with Jayco dealers, never in the area of the dealer we bought from. Have found Jayco head office service department to be first class though, & when in need just call to find their authorised repairers in the area we are in. Get a list & phone them to organise a time for repair. Have been satisfied with this system for years now & refuse to use dealers. Also ask for referals from the GN forum of repairers in the area you are going to be in.

Whats happening is drawers keep falling out and breaking, and damaging the floor. Ensuite doors coming loose and breaking. Shower screen coming off and damaged shower floor. A few other small things.
