Birdsville Track trash cleanup

Watched on Channel 2 Landline a few minutes ago. A very interesting story about volunteers who go out yearly in a group to clean up the track. It was very well organised with camp kitchen, trailers for the rubbish and the proper OH&S clothing to protect from other traffic.

They pick up some interesting rubbish including a guitar, fridges thrown out of caravans, as well as the usual like tyres, bits of metal etc. This time they picked up some tent poles that must have dislodged and the most interesting was a lost dog.

Beautiful black, very healthy quiet dog who had obviously fallen off or got left behind by its owners. They would take it with them till they found its owners or home to work out what to do.

A very interesting story, I don't think many would know this happens out there. Great people to devote their time picking up other peoples rubbish.

What a great thing to do!

I remember there being a lot of rubbish along the track when we went through many years ago.
