Remember when I sold Gypsy?

Just a little follow on...Some of you may remember that I sold Gypsy back in April. The buyer was in Victoria and paid no problem, but couldn't come to collect for awhile. My son said that's okay, he can keep it at his place until he comes up. Well he came up in May to collect. We'd told him it would be deregistered as it was going interstate, that he should make arrangements. Well, he didn't, and I forgot to de-register it anyway, so we let him take it on the proviso that he post the plates back to me.

Well they've just arrived this week after many phone calls and emails to him. Dan & I were really annoyed with him as we let him go in good faith that he'd post them back. So, lesson learned. Won't be doing that again! no

When we bought our motorhome from a chap in Victoria he let us drive it back to Qld & we then immediately changed the rego & sent him back his plates. We appreciated that he let us do that

My son has done it in the past too, with no problems. But this bloke was a bit of a dimwit. He bought my camper trailer sight unseen, then bought a 4WD from Scarborough sight unseen too. That was rather risky.

Yes, that's okay, having someone check it out for you. My son did that too. But this bloke only had my word for it, and the photos of course. But those photos could have been dodgy.

I bought my van sight unseen off ebay. I made the decision because it was the exact layout I wanted, the size of the van was right and the price was negotiated to my offer. I even paid for it before I collected it, I was so confident it would be alright.
Just lucky I guess.
It's a very tricky situation.
It's a shame we can't use trust in these negotiations.
I'm pleased to hear it all worked out in the end Beth. It might take a long time, but it did happen.

Beth, I don't know what you mean by 'those photos could have been dodgy' biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

good it all worked out in the end.

Oh yes you do! wink You're an expert at dodgying up photos!

Yes, I'm glad it finally worked out. Otherwise I would have had to just wait until October when the rego ran out. I spoke to the Transport Dept, and there was no way they'd deregister it without the plates.

We are in the process of buying a house, and the owner had promised to rectify a couple of problems. But when the contract arrived for us to sign, the old clause "as is" was still in there... not good enough, we sent it back to include the promised improvements. If its not on paper it doesnt count.

You wouldn't have to pay Beth. it would run out and be unregistered. People do it all the time.

No, they said I could just not pay, it,,let it run out.

but then they would hassle you for the plates which you do not have.

you said 'I spoke to the Transport Dept, and there was no way they'd deregister it without the plates. shrug.gif'

so the Transport Dept would keep sending you re-register papers, because you were the last owner on their books, you could always tell them what happened and maybe they would track the present owner.
