Frogs on the hop at Cobar

Hi everyone, well we are still at Cobar, we like the area very much, been coming here for about 3 years now, but the GLW had to have some pathology test done so we are staying a little longer, suppose to be 27 degrees tomorrow, that will be nice. We have met some very nice people during our stay, the park fills up by 5.00pm and when we rise at about 9.00am it is empty, feel terrible getting up at 9.00am but then again I have only been retired about 2 months.Tonight we had 12 army low riser semi's come in and the other night we had the variety bash - 82 cars really great.

Well stay careful everyone and enjoy every day.

Hi Frogs,
Where exactly in Cobar are you?
Sounds like an interesting place to stay - love meeting new people!
As for sleeping in till 9am - why the hell not - you have to enjoy your life the way YOU want to, not how others expect you to.
Continue having fun out there.
We are counting down to Dec 5 - for our year away from the rat race!
See you out there.
Chris and Peter

Cobar is a favourite stop over for us too.

We stay at the CP on the western outskirts.  Have seen it in all seasons.  I remember one occasion where there was water everywhere  ... and lots of birds, Parots & Galahs et al.

Lots of historical stuff to see, a nice town & free internet at the local Council library in the main street, like many NSW towns.  Reasonably fast, quiet and plesant surroundings.

We stop there at every opportunity.

While you're there, can you check on the rumour that the new owners want to put a pool and jumping castle in? That might mean the fees will go up - if it's true.

will do neilnruth, they have done a lot of work since we were here in January, 3 new washing machines are going in tomorrow, we use our own and they don't have a problem with that. They have also put in a new water filtration system and new taps and new power boxes as well. The gardens are getting spruced up and there is a rumor the wife heard yesterday that they were expanding down the back towards the footy ground an putting in motel type rooms. I will have a talk to the park manager, he's a nice bloke very helpful, this afternoon he went around handing out food/beer discount vouchers at the golf club and assisting people parking, like me he comes from Newcatle so he's a good bloke.biggrin The owners have 3 caravan parks but want to cut back totwo so have one for sale - don't know where though. He is quite nice, when we booked in he walked with the car till I was setup. It was quite windy today and dusty, got to 26.8 and at the moment it is 23 degrees. The park is full everynight, at 8.30am this morning there was five vans waiting to check in. Hopefully we will have the wifes pathology results by the end of he wek or monday and can be on our way. Stay safe everyone and enjoy.

my niece lives at Cobar, when we were planning an outback trip which included a visit ti her (ie before the accident and broken arm) her advice was "be sure to book a site in advance when coming to Cobar"  apparently there are a lot of mine workers there and limited accommodation.

Goes to show how things change.

Last time we were there, a bit less than 12mths ago there were lots of vacant sites, at least 70%.  And even then the place was more crowded than on any previous visit.

Last time we were in Cobar (a couple of years ago) the caravan park didn't take bookings.

Its only been in the last couple of months, when the new owners took over that you have to book now, but yes, my advice is that if you are coming this way most definately book in advance. Once again the park is full tonight but come 9.00am it will be empty. As for miners there would only be about half a dozen pemanents, and one of those caravans belongs to the park manager 4 up from us.

Take care everyone, enjoy life.

Oxley posted a very unhappy complaint about a caravan park in Cobar on the Solos forum. Is there more than one C/P there? I only remember one and we liked it, certainly no complaints about the amenities block.

As far as we heard while in Cobar visiting friends the mines have bought some of the motels for their workers which means the CP is left to tourists. Gerty Dancer - just checked Cobar Council website and seems there is only one CP in cobar.

yes thats correct neilnruth there is only one caravana park in cobar, but in my honest opion it is very nice, the grounds manager is a top bloke , can't do enough for you always pops in for a chat. Food pricing is strating to rise because of the mines opening tomatoes $12.00 @ kilo, we have two left and saving them for a special occassionsmile well thats all for now, take care and enjoy everyone.

I don't think the price rises are anything to do with the mining there in Cobar. I haven't bought any for weeks. 9.00 a kilo in Woolworths Childers. Bananas 3.99 a kilo. Avocado 2.25 each. I really don't know how they can justify those prices.
