Who know's awning repairer in Dubbo NSW?

Gday...

I am currently camped at Ariah Park van park. At 5.30pm tonight a huge thunderstorm hit here - heaps lightning and thunder. Thankfully there was no wind, but there was a heavy hailstorm for about 10mins. The hail was only about the size of a $1 coin, but they have peppered my awning with holes cry .

I'll ring my insurance tomorrow, and search the net for someone in Dubbo, but does anyone know of a recommended, reliable mob?

You just never know when these things are going to happen but this is early in the season.

How did the van & tug handle it?

Landy and van are OK... I assume the solar panels are OK as well but I can't get up there to check - will have to borrow a ladder biggrin.

The bloke who installed them said they were 'toughened' and would withstand most hail storms .... as long as the hail was not too big - this storm's hail was not that big really.

Got to watchout for those hailstones - our car years ago got pitted by them near Warwick here in Qld.

Gday...

There were a few loud claps of thunder and a few splashes of lightning about 5.30pm, so I went out of the van to check the sky to see what may be happening. The sky was blacker than the inside of a pepper pot and there was a wide front of black clouds that looked like they were curling over like a reverse wave.

 

The lightning was very bright and direct and the thunder was coming very quickly after their flash, making me realise the strikes were pretty close. So I went back inside, turned off the TV (which I had been watching the news), wound the antennae down so it wouldnt attract a lightning strike and proceeded with cooking my tucker.

 

Then I heard a strange approaching noise. So I went back out and the noise got closer and closer. At first I thought it was strong wind but no ... it was a hailstorm. L 

 

My first thought was "the Landy! !" ... and then "the solar panels ! !" ... the as the hail fell faster and faster, I realised the damage was actually occurring to the awning cry. The awning is now peppered with holes.cry Thankfully the Landy and van are OK, will need a ladder to check the solar panels.

 

Have found a repairer in Dubbo and will contact my insurance this morning for a quote number and take it from there. Oh well. such is life (so they say hmm)

Bad luck, John - hope you can get it fixed soon. Hailstorms frighten me more than anything else, as far as our van is concerned; John & I have discussed it a few times and have agreed that, should anything like that be approaching, we'll open the door wide (so we can get back inside) and just drop the awning as far as it will go, unless we have time to get it dismantled and pulled in properly.

There is a canvas place in dubbo called Slacks I think in a laneway near the RSL. Hope this is helpful

Thanks for the advice and thoughts. Spoke with the insurer today, have my claim number - it seems they are accepting the claim without fuss. They use a mob called B&C Caravans in Dubbo for repair work.

I have spoken with B&C Caravans, who seem experienced on the phone, and will be calling in on Tuesday for the quote to insurer and the ordering of the replacement awning 'canvas'. So I will check out a few of the camps around Dubbo while I wait for the delivery of the awning fabric.

 Mendooran, Camps 6, NSW, 443 a little north of Dubbo is a good spot for a few days.

Or if you want a caravan park just south of dubbo, Wellington caves caravan park is really nice!

Yep ... liked it there. Stayed for a week in 2010. Enjoyed the surrounding area including the caves etc at the van park. Good memories.biggrin

I was going to say B&C Caravan Repairs - we have used them. And both Mendooran and Wellington Caves CP good. Careful about any Dubbo CPs.
