Headed for Neville Hewitt Weir Camps6 #445 at Baralaba on sealed roads all the way although the camps map suggests that the road from Fitzroy Development Road to Baralaba is unsealed. Yesterday the place was packed with a fishing competition but today I had no problems finding a camp. The old bridge is being replaced with one much higher to avoid the flooding that occurs here and behind the new work is a weir with no overflow which I walked back to photograph through the main street passing the shops. There are cold showers available and flushing toilets with drinking water from the taps. Plenty of camping facilities for the day campers plus a playground for the children. Had received a message from spida and we met up at the Neville Hewitt Weir exchanging stories and information about other sites previously visited. We both had yabby traps and set them in the afternoon to be picked up in the morning. She is going to do volunteer work in Longreach having noticed it on the Grey Nomads web site and followed it up with emails. I am steadily moving south towards Millmerran for the Camp Oven Festival in early October. No Optus signal here for the internet or the phone so once again I will be on the look out for reception to make this post. Tuesday morning and a quiet day ahead, spida left mid morning on her way to Emerald as a first stop on her way to Longreach. Checked out the yabby traps and found no yabbies but there was a small fish in spidas trap. Left mine all day again with no result. John
