That's what a lot of Nomads use tcp99.   I'll be getting it myself when I get on the road.

I have a pre-paid Telstra Elite dongle. I've only had it for a few months so I've been experimenting with how much I recharge with. This is the one that seems to be working best for me... $100 for 6GB with a 3 month expiry.

Oh, and the purchase price was $99 with 3GB.

I have a testra 3g prepaid modem, $150 for 10 gig from March for 12 mths. I will buy a 4g modem in the near future as I believe they are so much quicker even in 3g areas.

I have an Optus sim with 500mb per month in a dongle as well, from my ADSL provider. I need to have constant internet connectivity as I Admin a health forum.

I am wondering how Optus with an antenna might be? I have just bought a small antenna to cover all the frequencies. I'm working on the patch leads now for connectivity.

I intend to purchase a Telstra pre-paid mobile broadband card $180 for 12gb (and they hanged Ned Kelly!!) for any area off the beaten track.

As I'll be travelling mainly on the east coast what sort of other plans are people using and getting reasonable coverage.

Guess it depends on what you need to do "On Line" For me, our last trip 4 weeks ago in FNQ & Western Qld with coverage 99.9% of the time with Telstra I used my Ipad with my IPhone as an Modem with Hot Spot for email and some Google, didn't even come close to using my 2 gig data,& used it every evening would never consider taking my lap top again as the Ipad did everything I needed,+ has a very good camera / Video.
Telstra is the ONLY way to go.

Gday...

I too have Telstra Next-G white dongle thingy (USB) .... on a plan - 7Gb per month at $59.95/month. I use between 4Gb and 6Gb each month ... some months I have been close to the 7Gb used.

Telstra is (unfortunate about the price) the only provider to use when ya away from any major area.

After having ADSL2+ with unlimted data for $59 a month mobile plans are pretty steep.

I could live with 7gb a month so will give Telstra a try.

We purchased an Optus pre-paid wi-fi modem for $159 12gig and lasts 12 months. We used it for our trip around Flinders Ranges and Broken Hill and had no worries.

Telstra is the best Telco as they have most coverage. I have a Plan, 3 GB for $29.50 month, but last few months they have been charging me $24.50. Contract runs out November 2012, but I'll just keep it going....... Initially I purchased a pre-paid modem but when I saw this Plan advertised all Telstra did was change the Sim card.

If you have a home phone with Telstra you can get mobile broadband via a 4G for your internet (wireless) 8G per month for $39.95 on a 12 month contract , Which we use at home and on the road , We used to have ADSL at home and when on the road still pay for ADSL while on the road and have Pre paid dongle has well , By having Wireless save us lot of money

Telstra is the only way to go really - you will occasionally get Optus, but not often enough to be reliable. We have an aerial that we put out sometimes if the connection is a bit "iffy" - but as Telstra say - their coverage is for 95% of the "populated" areas of Australia - there is a whole lot of this country that is "unpopulated"!!
