Not that long ago someone posted a picture of an alternative to the expensive Cobb cooker. I thought I'd give it a try. While away with some friends last week I cooked 8 whole potatoes wrapped in foil on the hot coals, turned them regularly, and they were great. Have tried other things - yet to refine my times - too much heat for a cake - or not enough distance from the coals - but it cooked very quickly - just had to cut the burnt bits off! 

I use another cake rack on top and also have a lid from an old boiler I put over the top if needed. I found the heat left after cooking was good to sit around to keep warm after dinner.

I spent $8 on the colander,$4 on the pizza tray and had the cake racks and lid. The handles of the colander stay cool while cooking so can easily be moved. I used heat beads for fuel. It's great fun.
