Looks very much like a "teardrop", which I believe is sold in Australia, not sure who manufactures them though, you could try googling "teardrop" caravans, bound to come up with something

Yes it is a Teardrop and there is a manufacturer in Qld. http://www.aussieteardrops.com/

I should have put that info in the original post.

I was more interested in how popular they are now having first been made in 1940...

I saw something that small tied to a fence here with a for sale sign on it. Didn't go up to have a look as was in a hurry but it looked like a small camper.

Often see them on the back of cars heading off to Rockabilly type gatherings - very "retro" - my late father in law used to make his own caravans - very much like this one, only bigger - would use them for a while and then sell them on. Have a book that has the patterns for the caravans in them.

Hello All

Saw a similiar one at Edithburgh, SA, last April.   The fellow makes and sells them at around $10,000 each.   The one I saw was very well made.  It was constructed of marine ply, claded with aluminum sheeting.   It had a double bed and camping gear for cooking etc.   Basic, but it provided the essencial equipment to travel for short durations.   Options were available.

If I remember rightly, I think you can get a do-it-yourself kit.

I thought about one initially, but decided I'd feel clostrophobic sleeping it.

And what happens in bad weather? Sit in bed all day? biggrin

But they are very cute!

THEY are great little campers, only good for overnighters or weekends and if it rains.......go home.....a bit pricey too.
