Maybe because a lot of people down there buy them for a trip up north, then find out how far it is, or that they just don't like travelling, and sell them when they get home. One answer anyway. Plus in Victoria, it is cold for longer than up in Qld, so vans tend to sit idle for several months - ergo - dead money sitting in the driveway.

I think storage is a big problem buy a van do a trip get home were to we kept it ,Allotment are very small and no where to park the van at home , But when this happen there are winners and losers just hope you do your home work before you buy
Theres a lot of caravan manufactureres around Melbourne, I pondered why that would be till I realised about the huge numbers of Migratory Victorians. With the van sitting around waiting for next year, can see why theres a lot of 2nd hand ones for sale.
I don't know why there are so many for sale there, but a good proportion of Australian vans are made there and as they don't have the transportation costs other states have to pay to get them there are generally cheaper in Melbourne new. Some people from other states travel there to buy them.
So being cheaper new in Vic I suppose the used ones have to be cheaper too, otherwise Vic's would buy new ones instead......
I think Victorians are the Travellers of OZ, we have so many travelling In/Thru Sa with their Rego plate reading " Victoria the Place to be" mate says why are'nt they back home then.
Re Vic's comment above, have come across people from WA and Qld who travelled down to Vic to Order/Pickup their van.
Friends in Tassie also buy their van in Vic leave it with friends, then get on the ferry, hook up their tug/van at the friends place for their mainland adventures.
