Hi BG, I just read your previous post re the above topic and I must agree with you about Bass Coast. I live in Bass Coast Shire, actually Wonthaggi and find they just don't care about anything or anyone BUT themselves. This may change very soon when we have Council Elections as a group of residents have got together to run for council and try to clean up the council. I must say though I have noticed in my travels around the Bass Coast area that a lot of travellers don't take a lot of notice of the costly "No Camping" signs anyway. I live near a park with toots and heaps of parking and people arrive late and leave early. I think the police have too much to do these days than to worry about things like that as well so I reckon they just drive past and don't look.
I havn't done any "Independent" (Free) Camping as yet but intend to in the next few weeks.

Hi Doug. You probably gathered from my post that I take absolutely no notice of "No Camping" signs. I stopover anywhere that is convenient to me. But I hasten to add that I try to be out of sight, I leave the area absolutely clean, and I don't do anything that would be detrimental to the area. I follow the CMCA Leave No Trace principal.

Dunno if I'm a bit late with this. But there is a cracker of a wayside stop about 4km west of Dimboola on the Western Highway. Next to Wimmera River. Loads of space, trucks can use it to swap loads trailers etc. Toilets and Driver reviver building there. It's close to half way between Meld and Adel. It's in Camp6.
Green hill lake at Ararat is a cracker too, donation, but hot showers, toilets available.
Near Horsham is Talyors Lake, at the boat ramp, 3 vans stayed for the night. toilet.
I am even later. Just saw the posts. I stayed at Aire River, free camping. The area is divided by the river so it is very quiet. Everything was freshly mown and very shady with large flat areas, toilets but no showers. Another lovely spot was Dartmoor where I stayed for several days, free camping also. Both places had enough people around for me to feel safe but not enough to feel crowded.
