Collarenebri NSW

Sounds like an eventful day Beth. I have no idea where it is let alone try and pronounce it. Will have to get the map out.
Are you on the Newell or taken a different highway?

Edit, found it, You've gone down the Gwydir Highway I see. And got a fair way I see.

Well, today has been a fiasco! hmm So much for stopping at Lees Reserve out of Goondiwindi. no

We couldn't find it! We saw the signs for the 3 other reserves, but not Lees. Either we all missed the sign or someone has stolen it. Lee had put the co-ordinants into his Tomtom, and either those co-ordinates were wrong, or tomtom was wrong, because it said it was about 3 hours away from where it was supposed to be. confuse

Anyway, when we got to Goondi, Lee asked a local about it. He said be no good for us anyway. I don't know if that meant the caravans or my little car. He then directed us to the Town Common. The name conjured up an image of a nice grassy place. No...it was really just a paddock full of weeds, burrs and long grass! biggrin Oh, and my gas bottle ran out so had to go looking for somwhere to refill...the CP.

So off we went again planning to camp at Mehi River, nope, couldn't find that either...had the co-ordinants for it too. I should say that Lee & Deb travel in front..so they can bounce the roos out of my waybiggrin...so I'm blaming them for not finding these places.

Hence why we've ended up beside the river at Collarenebri. 436 kms was too much for these grey nomads, I tell you. I was exhausted by the time we got here about 4.30. yawn It's a good spot here. Lee can pump water from the river for showers etc. There are showers and toilets back near the road, but we wanted to be beside the river. We're going to stay a couple of days, so I'll take some photo's tomorrow.

And now I'm going to write a comment on Oz Camps about Lees Reserve. biggrin

After that effort, I hope you all manage to have a really well deserved sleep tonight Beth... smile

Sounds like you've managed to find a nice spot at Collarenebri to spend a couple of rest days.
I haven't been through there for many years. I think the population of the town was only about 400 or so. Probably a lot bigger now?

Looking forward to the photos. Cheers. Pam. biggrin

Gday...

OH - I can relate to that sort of day. It intrigued so I just hadda research all the websites I use to see if I could find Lees Reserve. I finally found it and the attached photos give you an idea of where it is.

The co-ords for it are -28.6517,150.563  which work in Google maps (which are where I created the pics from). The last pic shows there is actually a brown sign on the road.

I sure hope you have a better day tomorow - I'm certain you will biggrin

Cheers - John

Yes, the Gwydir Marj. Long way out.

Pam, love the new avatar. biggrin We haven't been over the river to the township yet, but I reckon it hasn't grown much since then. wink

John, that's the info we had. I found it on Oz Camps also. Lee said that Tomtom may not work as well as a proper GPS, at getting the exact spot. When we did hit that spot, there was no sign there or anywhere else along the road. We're guessing that someone named Lee has stolen it, haha, or the locals have taken it to keep their favourite spot to themselves. biggrin

Also, I've since found out that the the Mehi River camp #898 was just a truckstop at the side of the road, and yucky at that! So we've marked it in our Camps 6 as 'crappy!'.

We're going to stay here for a few days. After a cool morning, it's getting pretty warm and there's a lovely breeze coming off the river.
