Problem with wheel balance on Nissan Patrol Wagon 06

Had that problem with an earlier Nissan patrol, it had damper shocker on the steering tierod that was faulty. Exact fault you described.

Our 4 wheel drive has this wobble that starts around 80km. We have had this into Bridgestone replacing tyres with new Bridgestone Duelers, advise by BS. The wobble still continued so we tried Pedders but with no luck. We have genuine Nissan steel rims. The 4x hasnt been raised.

Any one else had this problem.

Hi Sue,

I had a Patrol for many years, loved it. They are however very susceptible to worn steering damper (its a shock absorb-er that mounts across the front), even poor bushes on the damper can tend to exaggerate small wobbles.

I would ask Pedders to take it off and test it, I remember I chased the same thing for about a year.

I hope this helps.

see if your tyre dealer can do a finish balance with the wheels an tyres on the veihicle it has worked for me in the past
but not all tyre places can do it

Another thing that I found out about with a new set of BFG's on my old 4Runner was that even after trying to balance the tyres 3 times I would still get a slight wobble around 90KPH. I took it to another place and the guy there said he'd try a "stud balance" rather than a "centre balance" and that fixed the problem. I didn't even realise that there were different ways to balance the tyres at the time, and it seems that most places only do a centre balance because it's quicker and easier just winding on a cone to centre the wheel centre rather than mounting the wheel on the machine using the stud pattern by matching it up using an adaptor plate and tightening the 5 wheel nuts. It also cost $4.00 extra per wheel than the standard balance, but it was worth the difference.

Hi I'd go for the damper on the steering arm, I had the same trouble on a 4x4 fire truck. At 60 k's it would get such a bad wobble that it would shake the cabin to bits and it happened very quickly.

Cheers

Steve
