I recently discoverd this document, it is a bit old, but the sentiments expressed in the document are just as valid today as they were in 2009.

The discussion around the value of the Grey Nomad trade to the state, and in particular the regional communities of the state is explored, and while the author recognises that it is not fully understood, but it is recognised as significant.

It is a bit heavy to read, but worth the effort.
