Around Millaa Millaa QLD

Gday...

Currently in the Millaa Millaa Van Park luxuriating in being surrounded with green, dense trees, creeks with flowing water, waterfalls and temperatures that are much more tolerable.

I have been in outback NSW and QLD for the past five weeks or so - Bourke, Wyandra, Blackall, Longreach, Winton, Cloncurry, Normanton, Croydon and Mount Surprise.

For those who haven't had the good fortune of visiting this area, I thought I'd share a couple of photos of the waterfalls around Millaa Millaa.

Cheers - John

Gday...

The 'winter dry season' is when most travel in this region. Although, given I was there in October which is outside the 'peak season' I was surprised how much water flows in the creeks and over the falls.

The falls would be magnificent in the wet season - Dec/Jan. Although, that is the summer - temps and humidity would be very high. Depends on how you cope biggrin

And of course it is the 'cyclone season' .... but it would be a great time to be there.

cheers - John

RL, when you were in Ravenshoe did you stay at the railway yards?  great cheap place to stay, we intended to stay 3 nights and finished staying 13 nights, nice small town with 2 supermarkets plus a variety of shops and pubs.

Gday...

Nah Woomy - I luxuriated at the Millaa Millaa Van Park ... I had been "free" camping for the previous couple a weeks so I thought I'd base somewhere with all mod cons and tour around. Turned out to be a good plan.

(Van Park gave me a good rate $105 for the week - and except for a couple of overnighters during the week - I had the bottom of the park to meself)

Cheers - John

Having been away, I've just found this post.

I've been up there many times as a friend lives in Malanda.,,just down the road from Milla. Once I was there in February for my friends 60th, and that is NOT a good time to be there. They get a helluva lot of rain in summer, so the falls are all spectacular, but it's also extremely humid and there's the cyclone concern. This particular time I'd used my rail pass, but the line was flooded when I was supposed to be returning, so I had to fly home instead.

I think around May would be a good time. There'd still be a lot of water about, but not so humid. And it can get quite cold in winter on the Tablelands themselves.

Great photos, as usual, John.
