The weather changed at Greens Lake last night. It got quite warm during the night, so that was a nice change. Linda (nomadic1) and I had a quick chat then we left for the short drive to Bendigo.
We're in the Showgrounds, haven't seen the caretaker yet, so we've just set ourselves up like everyone else here...10 caravans at the moment...I guess he/she will come along at some stage. We have power, the amenities are a little walk down the hill, and we've got a nice grassy spot. Some others are down on the dirt, and with the wind blowing a gale, their being covered with dust. Glad we parked up here. Still getting the wind but not much dust.
My turn to do the washing now, while D&L have gone to look for the info centre and a supermarket. I gave sis strict orders not to go looking for our Nana's house until I'm with her. She said what if we just happen upon it, I said close your eyes! I saw it about 8 years ago, but she hasn't seen it for 38 years!
Loved Bendigo! We did all the tourist stuff, rode the talking tram, went down the mine, etc, but most of all enjoyed the joss-house. Fascinating place with beautiful buildings and interesting history... but you know all that cos you've been there before Beth. Enjoy!
Have fun there ladies. How long are you staying? I'm heading up there tomorrow for a few nights. Might call around to the show grounds and see you if your up for a visit. I used to live there till a year ago. Fabulous town. Very informative visitor information centre, ask for Sharon if you go in on a Thursday. Tess

I think we're here til Thursday Tess. Always happy to meet another nomad. We will be out and about, so I'll PM my mobile number to you.
Sis & bil have already been to the info centre, while I was doing the washing. Came back with an armload of stuff! It's been so windy, the washing was drying as fast as I was hanging it! All washed, dried and put away! Mind you, our vans are now full of dust.
Bloke came around this morning to collect the fee, $20 per site per night. That's a better price than the one we paid in Echuca. I've used the shower and it's hot and clean, toilets are also clean. Although it's a little noisy here, we're happy enough with it.
Today we first went to see Nana's old house, sis hadn't seen it since it was sold and renovated. It was originally a very old pub, with the old kitchen out the back. And lots of dark rooms which, to me as a child, were very scary. It was painted white over the bricks, but with the reno, they stripped back the paint to the original red brick. We would have loved to see inside, but thought it be a bit rude to ask.
Then we had a ride on the Vintage Tramway. We particularly enjoyed that because we're old enough to remember the trams in Brisbane. Our ticket was for two days, so we'll go back tomorrow and get off in town for a look around...The Joss House, the beautiful gardens and the shops! Much easier than trying to drive around town and find parking.
Then we went to the Eaglehawk Cemetery. Last time I was here around 8 years ago, a cousin showed me family graves, so I reckoned I could find them again, and amazingly, I did! So I was able to show sis our grandparents, and great grandparents graves.
Then we went to Bendigo Pottery. We had a good look around and watched a man making a dish. And we shopped! Of course!
After the wind yesterday, today was overcast most of the morning, then it rained for quite a while. Now the sun is out again, and there's a pleasant breeze.
The mention of Eaglehawk is a blast from the past, Beth. The man that bred the best dogs I've had the pleasure of hunting with lived there, Doug Mummery. I still have dogs descended from the originals a mate & I obtained from him some 30 years ago. At that stage Doug had around 90 dogs, from memory 4 different pure breeds he bred for the show brigade plus his crossbreeds that he bred for the challenge of breedinng the best hunting dogs he could.

My Uncle kept Greyhounds. He was mad about them! Raced them all over the district. He always lived with Nana in Eaglehawk, and used to walk them across the mullock heaps behind the house. He inherited her house, but couldn't afford to renovate it so that's when it was sold.
