How did you find it?
I know about the search but never seem to hit on what I want.
I searched Spirit of Tasmania but didn't find the parking link.

I tried a few things, then remembered the word 'parking". Hope it helps Pam.
When we caught the ferry we timed our arrival for the time people stated to queue so didnt need to park anywhere while waiting.

when we went to tassie last year we just parked on the beachfront road near where the boat was, seems you can park there all day if you want as long as you are waiting for the boat.....was easy tghen just drive forward and around to the loading area

I travel on the Spirit regularly. Parking near the ship is a real pain. Meters operate 24/7 and it costs $4.00 an hour. I usually plan on getting to the wharf at 5.30 p.m. for the 7.30 p.m. departure. You can drive onto the wharf at that time. Otherwise I park at a major shopping center car park or a service station with a truck stop until it's time to go to the pier.. During peak times, there is a morning departure from Melbourne at 7.30 a.m. and I go for that one if I can. Parking is easier. If you drive along the Esplanade, away from the ship, for about 1 km, you'll come to the Beach Hotel on your left. On the opposite side of the Esplanade, across from the Beach Hotel, you can park overnight from 6.00 p.m. until 8 a.m. next morning. Meters don't operate in that area between those hours.

We are thinking of driving to Melbourne and parking for the day so we can look at the city a bit before night sailing to Tassie.

When we do decide I won't put dates on here anyway. I feel it would be announcing to everyone that my house is sitting empty.

Having said that if we are in Tassie at the same time I will be following the posts of GNs so if we were in same region I would let you know. We prefer to use caravan parks so it is unlikely we would find ourselves in the same camp but you never know.

Ok Pam - would be good to meet up if you over there when we are, and each to his own re caravan parks, or free camping. We are lucky in that we are staying at my son's house in Frankston, so only have to drive up from there on the day we leave, will be doing a dummy run beforehand, just to be sure of the loading procedure, we will go up in afternoon, and check out what happens.

We just took a drive up to Port Melbourne, Station Pier, just to get the lay of the land with not too much traffic around. Seems pretty straightforward to go aboard, the yellow chain boom gates are opened you get processed - no vegetables, honey - gas bottles etc - then follow round till you get on the boat.

Saw a car and caravan parked right back at St Kilda, along Beaconsfield Parade - would be paying for parking there, not cheap all along the Parade. However, if you go into Beacon Cove (Beach Street I think) , turn just before Station Pier, before the shop, follow along behind that for about 2.5 - 3 k - T intersection - turn left, Sandridge Beach - free parking!!! There were two caravans with cars attached parked there, obviously waiting to board - just 3 minutes away - it becomes Todd Road if you follow it, which comes off the Westgage Freeway -from the other direction, or down Williamstown Road - Easy As!!!!
