We have just spent 2 weeks on YP. No free camps on eastern side of the peninsula, we spent a weel at Wauraltee Beach on Western side, half way betweem Port Victoria and Port Rickarby. No services, but a beaut place to camp if you are into fishing, or just walking on the beach. We spent a week there, but you have to be totally self contained.
Some other camping by permit spots along the peninsular, I believe are $10.00 per night, or $35.00 per week.
Just north of Marion Bay is a bush camp that charges $22.00 for the night + $3.00 per person, per night for showers, so we stayed at Marion Bay for $26.00 instead (highly recommended)
Point Black, camping is $20.00 for power and water on ocean frong, or $15.00 for non ocean front. Another excellant spot You will need to book, phone number is in CAW 6

taj and judebrue, when are you both planning to visit Yorke Peninsula.
I will be based at Balaklava (hopefully from next week) and would love some visitors..... In the mean time, we are still on YP, currently at The Gap, CAW 6 SA 456, and will be until we run out of water!
Just so you both know, good shopping centre, fuel and other services at Kadina, however, reasonable IGAs at both Minlaton and Maitland.

Hmmm, youv'e got me thinking, where the heck is (The Gap)? live in Moonta and know the Peninsula reasonably well, the only Gap I'm aware of is Burunga Gap out past Bute.

As an add on, Moonta has a pretty good shopping centre with a reasonable Foodland supermarket, not as big as Woolworths in Kadina but much bigger than the IGA's in Minlaton and Maitland.
Moonta is pretty much the most interesting of the larger towns on the Peninsula, plenty to see and do and has an interesting mining heritage.

Hey Santa, The Gap is North of Balgowan. Turn west off Moonta-Maitland Road at Weetulta, 15 k of dirt road to the sand dunes along Gap Road. The camping areas is called The Gap.

We were in Moonta in May/June. Drove through a dust storm from Peterborough to get there which was made worse by all the farmers madly dry sowing. Then it rained. They knew the rain was coming. By the time we left the peninsular the barley was up and everything looked great. Loved Moonta. Husband was tracking some family history in the area.
taj and judebrue, would be great if we could catch up when you are passing through. Balaklava has a nice little caravan park where we will be based. PM me if you are planning to call through.
