Portable Evaporative Air Cooler

Saw one working at the CV show last week. Seemed to work OK, but they are rather small and quite expensive. I think they were about the same price as a large house model.

I worked in the evaporative cooler manufacturing industry for 25 years.
My advise is don't waste your money on that product unless you intend to use it exactly as depicted in the photo.

If it is like the normal household model it would only work in a dry hot environment, not a coastal humid area. We used them in central Qld for years and were good, but this one seems to very small...and expensive! You may have to look at an ordinary fan which would be more cost effective.

Thanks Poppy, like you said, think I will stick with the fan, someone suggested holding a wet hand towel in front of it for max personal effect!

If you wet your shirt and sit in front of the fan you will be very very cool, in fact you will be cold. Give it a try.

Use a spray bottle to mist water in front of the fan....works a treat.

At the Jayco stand at the Perth Caravan and Camping show they have these large fans that have water mist sprayed in front of them for the public, a welcome relief on hot days! I'll have to get myself a spray bottle!!
