I must recommend the Babinda rest area , far NQ . Nice grassed areas , plenty of room, great clean showers and toilets, just across the highway from Babinda township. The Boulders and Josephine falls are within 10klms. Lovely spot, on the banks of Babainda creek. 48 hr stay, I think. Gennys allowed(one was going when I got there). There are fish in the creek, and I will try to catch some, tmrow. Bill
hello Bill Stayed there this year before the new toilet /shower block was finished and before the rains fell would definately recommend it and also the Boulders on the other side of the road both excellent Ken
Couldnt agree more, we were there in September. The local baker came round at the end of the day with his left over produce to give away once his products have been tasted we ended up buying some the next day, he's a really good baker and the butcher sells great meat at a reasonable cost. I believe he does his own bacon and several people told us how good it tasted, so it wasnt just us who appreciated it.
We agree its a great little town trying to get ahead following closure of the mill. We visit our daughter there on a regular basis. Try the opportunity shop for great specials especially reading matter. Son in law catches Barra in East Russell River which runs through his property but beware there is a resident crocodile who sun bakes on shore so we always fish from our vehicle. Bramston Beach nearby is well cared for and has a council run campground on the beachfront which is great for a long morning walk or a swim in the swimming enclosure (supposedly clear of stingers). We will spend a few weeks in the area around May. Remember, the bakery closes early afternoon as soon as they sell out of what they have cooked on the day.
Travel safe.
