Preservation Bay next to Penguin Tas.

Preservation Bay is next to Penguin between Devonport and Burnie and the site is on the Eastern side of the Penguin Surf Club. It seems that we are camped on what may have been the Club grounds, the area is covered with grass and there are some shade trees all overlooking Bass Straight. There are no facilities but in front of the Surf Club there is a tap with fresh water. Camps6 #234 indicates that it requires self contained vehicles.

Enjoyed getting to know other campers, especially the lady who owned a Coaster Motorhome who let me look around the layout. It was in good condition for a 1973 bus, she said that she would sell it for $12000 but it was too dear for me. Went for a walk round the beach with Billeee & Jules and noticed a water run off across the beach only around a metre and a half wide and I decided to jump over and ended up with wet feet but on the way back I stepped it out made a run for the water and jumped again, this time I made it over the water but was in for a surprise when I landed. My body was not ready for the sudden stop when I landed and my knees folded, I was fortunate not to have fallen over but it has made me think that jumping is not for me. Getting up a speed and then expecting the legs to propel me upward and forward and the knees to behave like I could bounce on landing was the product of a rosy coloured memory. It was easy all those years ago.

Another day in Tassie and what a beautiful place it is, have a look at the beaches here and the general countryside is green and lush. I had been told that Tasmania was like England and have to agree, the small green fields are very reminiscent of England but I have not seen any beaches to compare with those here on England's Sunny Shores. Did go outside onto the beach from 9.30pm to 10pm looking for penguins coming home for the night but it was very cold and missed them.  John
