Qld Autumn meet

Hope every-one clicks on the Link, and reads all the Info. there Beth.  Just in case some-one doesn't, take note.

"The road from Kalpower in the south through Many Peaks to Nagoorin is signposted as a steep, curved road and unsuitable for cars towing caravans."

Cheers,

Sheba.

Marj and I thought we might make it somewhere different this time. This is where we've come up with.

http://www.lets-getaway.com/Review-Qld-Boynedale_Bush_Camp.htm  Also in CAW 5 #107.

There are pit toilets, but otherwise you need to be self sufficent. BYO water, even though it's near the lake, I don't know that you can get to the water to get a bucket in. The water level would depend on how much rain there'd been I assume. Dogs on a leash are okay. Maximum stay is 7 days which is great, and best of all, it's free!

My suggestion is the last week of April or the first week of May.

Thoughts? Opinions?

I just thought some people might automatically take that route, if it seems the most direct from whichever direction they're travelling.

Cheers,

Sheba.

I would have prefered that route as I'll may be going west before then, but I'll heed the warnings and steer clear of that road.

Sounds good to me Beth. Not far from you Sheba, maybe you can come to this one.
I had noted the state of the road from the south. Had it written in my Camps book as John (yeoeleven) had been down it and put up a warning.
Come in from Calliope, sealed road with the last 2ks unsealed.
The photos of the camp site show a very nice spot.

Yes, DON,T take your caravan-trailer in from the south as the many peaks-Bulion rd is too steep and narrow. Its better to go back to Calliope and use the Bruce Holeway. Bill

We were there last year , there is a boat ramp so getting water is ok & we found it to be very good water.

The road from Calliope is all sealed & very good.

That's always my problem too Sheba. But I managed last year near Gympie, which can get very cold. The days were beautiful..I just retired to the van earlier than the others.

Yep, a week is good for me too. You pick a date then Marj..at this stage, I have no dates marked on my calender. Is it your daughter who's having another bub?

JC, I can understand that. I'd want to be there too. wink We've got fingers crossed here that my eldest will soon have good news too.

Boyndale is a very open area, some trees, but lots of open ground - so should get what sun there will be all day. Can get to the water for collection with bucket, no problems, and there are red claw and fish - if you have a boat, would be a good spot - it is only about 9k from township of Calliope to the turn off to Monto, which is the road to Boyndale - good dirt road in. Dump point near pub in township, and I think water was available there as well. The town has a good IGA and several other shops.

If some would prefer some creature comforts, 23.7kms to the south is Ubobo, where you can camp at the Discovery Centre http://www.boynevalley.org.au/discovery-centre/ for $10 per person per night, with full use of showers, toilets, BBQ's and laundry.

Personally, I prefer the idea of being near the water.

Haven't made any plans as yet, was starting to have some thoughts as to where when we were told that our son & wife are expecting, so some one ???wants to be there, mid year.

So the answer is yes, but as to when & where is to be determinded.

I've got the same problem JC. Have to head back south mid year right in the middle of winter for new grand baby.

I like the sound of the first one myself. I bought the On the Road Free camp book yesterday. There were photos of the lake and surrounds. Looks really good. A week is good for me. Just have to settle on a date. Sometime in April will be good.

Yes it certainly is Beth. Due first week in July, Deegan will be 22 months. A good gap between them.

What holidays are in April. I presume Easter is. Don't have a calender in front of me. Maybe the 3rd week in April.

Okay, they think late April, early May but have no date set yet, so I'm hoping they go with May. It'll be northern NSW, maybe Iluka, which would be nice, but Boyne Valley and Iluka are a looong way apart! biggrin I'll see how the finances hold up.

So yes, I'm fine with the third week in April.

I'm sure there'd be a service/march in Calliope or Ubobo for anyone who's still around for Anzac Day Popeye.

I found this video of the Boynedale Bush Camp on youtube. The quality is shocking, but at least it shows a bit of the camping area.
