I tried to ring Jules today to see if they are all ok. Didn't get a reply so left a voice message. Jules txt me back later to say they were at a beach and safe. Didn't say where.

They were heading to Bracknell away from the fires, have not heard that they kept to their plans but nothing to the contrary either, very severe condition in places but if all do the right thing all should be ok. I will try ring Jules in the morning. They were planning to leave Wednesday which was day before fires became problem. Hope they did.
I am in Launceston. Luckily all is ok here. Major fire areas are around Hobart. I'm watching ABC 24 and it's saying 60 buildings destroyed at Dunally, outside Hobart on the way to Port Arthur. If travelling throughout this State, prudence will keep you away from forested areas. Current temp. (0652 hours) 18.5 at Hobart, forcast to reach 25 with winds averaging 20 kph.

Since light travels faster than sound, some people appear bright until you hear them speak.
Halfpint is also over there somewhere just not sure where. If anyone finds out how our GN friends in Tassie are going I'm sure they will keep us up to date on here.
Don't try and be brave people get out if you have too, and,

Had contact with Jules at 7am, all ok , they are north of the fire area and moving inland up to Derby today, they are aware of situations and remaining alert, not sure if 1/2pint is with them.
Hi all - as John says - we are all fine - John has gone ahead, and hwe are catching up on internet stuff before leaving St Helens - a lot cooler today, thank goodness 0 we are aware of fire dangers around the state and will stay alert - thanks for your concerns!

I am very moved by the care and concerned shown by all you people. Holidays and travel have been relatively closed and solitary affairs for me in the past (thanks to a partner who wouldn't talk to anyone). But now that I'm on my own I think it would be nice to be able to share in the type of friendship and comradery that is demonstrated here. God bless you all and keep you safe.
Welcome to the site ozannie - it is indeed a very friendly site - a lot of us haven't even met each other, as yet, but we all take an interest in what others are doing. I see you are from Mornington? ARe you still there, or travelling? What vehicle do you have? Everyone always wants to know these things - so I am getting in first - hahahaha!!
We have some get togethers sometimes - one place in Victoria that is very popular with GN's is Greens Lake - between Bendigo and Shepparton - there are usually quite a few there thrughout the summer. And there is an autumn gathering in Queensland in April, I think it is. Check out the "get togethers" sub forum on the site. Great way to meet people.

Thanks for your welcome. I probably actually a GN in training because I'm still working full time and it looks like I will be for some time yet. But I recently bought a 1984 Golf Tourer on ebay so that I could get away for weekends and short breaks. I think it was a good price but then I spent four times as much getting a better car to tow it and fitting it out. I do still live in Mornington and tomorrow I head out for my first trip. Thought I'd do the CP thing first to make sure everything works. My dogs and I will be in Castlemaine for a couple of nights and then I'm thinking if going to Firth Park near Trentham if it's not too crowded and there is no threat of bushfire. I just bought the On The Road Guide to Free Campsites and have had a whole new world open up to me. I'm eager to go.
