Launceston, Tasmania

Actually St Leonards (suburb) - St Leonards Picnic Park, Station Road, St Leonards.  Not in Camps 6.  Toilet, dump point and water.  Free BBQ's - and locals were swimming in the river - brrrrrr!!!

Dog friendly park next door - heaps of people coming with their dogs - leash free and they can swim.

Bus stop to Launceston city in Station Road, 6 minutes apparently.

You must go see the monkeys in the city. A huged caged off park for them inside a park. I'm not sure exactly w.here as it was a good 10 years ago I saw them there.
They are fun to watch. Have fun

Didn't see any monkeys Marj - just wandered round the city, Billeeeeeee taking pics of old churches etc. Really nice town, but not much parking for bigger vehicles - but we found a spot - $2.50 for 3 hours I think. Wanted a Big W, but apparently there is only one in Hobart!! There is a K Mart, but didn't find it.

I live in Launceston. Go to Showgrounds in Forster Street, behind Aurora Stadium. Closer to town than St. Leonards. Water and Dump Point available. If you stay overnight at Round House, inside the showgrounds, you can probably plug into a power point. But I didn't tell you that !! Closer to the City also. Walking distance to Tiger Bus, which takes you around the City FREE !!

Thanks BG - good to know for the future - but St Leonards was fine anyway.

Bucko - is that the St Leonards site? or the Round House? If it is the St Leonards site, they may close the gates to the park, but the place to stay over is just past the gate, area leading to the leash free dog area - small roundabout in the middle.

And a heads up - heard from another source that the St Leonards spot is closed - so too sure!

25 km's from Launceston, north up the West Tamar highway (after 20 km's turn down toward the river at sign for Gravelly Beach). A few minutes further on you'll find the Gravelly Beach boat ramp and carpark (you can't miss it). It's a quite nice spot with views of the river, public toilets (not sure of the hours), picnic tables, playground. Where you have to park though is all coarse chip bitumen and daily close to the road (not busy at night). Room for any size vehicle.

The sign at Launceston Showgrounds has been there a long time. The gates are never locked.
