Looks like a puppy that will take up a lot of van space one day! Very cute but.

We've just finished a tour of about 6 weeks around the upper Murray, Yackandandah etc and there was not one caravan park where there were not nuisance dogs. The type that are just lovely when their owners are around but bark continually when their owners are not near. I'm a dog lover but why should I have to put up with the noise in my caravan. Yapping dogs are just another part of the suburbs that caravan travellers like to get away from. The biggest offenders seem to be the over indulged psychotic maltese terrier variations. Why you would take a dog that is bred to bark to the serenity of the bush is beyond me. Those of you who have well mannered, properly trained and people friendly dogs it's great to see you in the parks. Please keep those psychotic mobile mops in the kennels.

Our dog is yappy when we are not there unfortunately.
So consequently we try not to leave him alone for too long.
Don't want him disturbing others.
I have recently purchased a summer weight thundershirt for him.
Haven't had the chance to try it out yet but I am hopeful.
They help with anxiety and are supposed to stop them barking.

Welcome to the forum Vindalu. Shame you introduced yourself with a "vent".

As most people are unaware of what happens when they leave their dog alone, perhaps a more appropriate action would have been to leave a polite note on their van door - like...... " Just to let you know your dog was very upset while you were away".

Thanks for the welcome. Yeah well sorry about the vent Rip and Rosie but many people really find it a major problem. All of the offenders were known to the camp managers and they were getting tired of the complaints too. Unfortunately many people are very selfish about dogs, they want them to be surrogate children, all forgiving companions on demand and a source of amusement when they feel like it They want none of the responsibility of training the dog or being its proper master, that is - the dominant member of the pack. Leave your yapping dogs at home.

Great to see your puppy. I'm sure you'll have wonderful times together. Travelling with a dog does pose some problems but it's so worthwhile.

We've just brought home our new puppy too, Pippa.

Here we go again. Heather puts up a photo of Missy, who by the way is very tiny and won't grow very big so will not take up much room. What happens, attacks from all sides on the merits of for and against.
It seems Travelling with Dogs section has just turned into a hate session every time there is a new post.
I was teaching Heather how to post photos and Missy's photo was there so I showed her how to pop it on.
Give it a rest for goodness sake. Some of us love and have dogs and some of us don't like dogs and won't have them. End of story.

We only have a dog by default (son's dog). While we love him, we sure would rather travel without him so how would we be judged? Can't judge a book by it's cover - or an owner by their dog.

Well, to be honest, I agree with you Briche, they can be a bloody nuisance in the van!

Especially in a thunderstorm. Mick is terrified, and wants to be wherever you are, as close as he can get- which means if you stand at the sink, and he's in between your ankles. Sit down for a minute and he's wanting to be on your lap, or if all else fails, under your feet! It just seems like everywhere you put you foot there's a dog underneath!

And then there are the wonderful awakenings during the night-always from a good sleep/great dream- when the dog needs to go outside.

And then (again) there's the joy of finding when he's buried his secret stash of bone or dog bikky- usually under the doona, or behind a cushion.

Or the other one (we have 2) who takes his teddy everywhere, and loves it to death- but it smells like only a dog would love- and I'm forever chucking it out and he's forever crying till he finds it again.

I love my dogs, but you've got to admit that, like kids, they aren't always wonderful and can be little mongrels!

Sally (Border Collie) is quiet, friendly, loving and will ignore any other dog. But if a yappy little thing thinks its bigger and wants to yap yap yap at her, she burrs up and will respond accordingly. She usually wins. Moral. Train the dog and keep it under control.
