Interesting first day alone.

Just realized that I have been in company of Grey Nomads from the forum continuously since the middle of October some 3 months. So much for solo travelling.

Left Billeee & Jules at Bracknell and headed through Launceston and on the the East Tamar Highway wanting to drive up to Low Head and see George Town, a very attractive drive with the river often being visible with good views. Mostly historic old houses and such, completely over my head but I have been there and looked at the river from George Town. Went on through and up to Low Head stopping at the farthest north the light house.

Drove back to the Batman Bridge (the subject of a separate post) and through to Beaconsfield on the West Tamar Highway then through to Greens Beach. Walked on the sand at Greens Beach and was amazed to find the sea warm so much so that I returned to the van got changed into bathers and went in for a swim. Totally different swimming in the Bass Straight than in the Tasman Sea at Lagoons Beach. Walked the length of the beach drying off.

I am parked probably illegally at the end of the Greens Beach Road, there is a sign stating that camping is not allowed opposite the Caravan Park but I am way past that tucked away right at the end of the road. Time will tell if I get sprung but this is a beautiful place and intend to stay here tomorrow until late so that I can park in any one of several free camps down the West Highway stated hours between 5pm and 9am. No Optus here but the Telstra Pre Paid is doing it's stuff.  John

The caravan park caretaker came round on his golf cart checking out any illegal campers last night at around 7pm so I said that the place where I was camping was well beyond the caravan park, his reply was that the park owned all the land by the road and I had to move on.

Honey works better than vinegar so I immediately said that I would pull the pop top down and move and was sorry to have inconvenienced him but I was a pensioner and couldn't afford to stay in caravan parks, we talked for a while and I said that I could move out early in the morning before anyone came out that way. I was surprised to be allowed to stop over providing I moved out early.

So here I am parked where I temporarily parked yesterday having moved here at 7am and am thinking of staying here for the day and moving down to the free camp in Beaconsfield at 5pm when it officially opens.     John
