Beaconsfield & O'Neills Reserve

Beaconsfield Showgrounds Camps6 #263 is similar to all the free camps down the West Tamar Highway in that the hours are between 5pm & 9am making for a quick stopover, nothing wrong with that but lacking in the fellowship that exists where longer stopovers are available.

Beaconsfield has a huge area and the biggest rigs can be accommodated, there are toilets available and water if you have one of those unlocking taps. Rubbish removal and a dump spot make this a great in and out venue but for me as a solo traveller I find it very impersonal.  O%27neils+Reserve+001.JPG

Left Beaconsfield early Saturday morning and set off to camp at Deloraine but even after taking the back roads and meandering through the Meander Valley I was there by 10am. Far too early to stop and camp so back to plan B which was to go on to Oneills Creek Picnic Reserve Camps6 #222 at Gowrie Park via Sheffield. Camps6 #222.

The distances on the Tasmania map in Camps look huge but it is easy to forget that the scale is so different, anyway I plan to be here for a few days the sign says 4 nights maximum. I have filled the petrol jerry can so even if the weather changes I can use the generator, having been in Tassie since the 1st December I have yet to use all the fuel in the topped up generator.

I will explore the township later and check out the walks by the creek. This site has toilets and rubbish removal but the water has to be boiled and has room for big rigs.  John

Looks a good spot John - Sheffield is a nice town - you will like the murals - and there is a shop where they make glass marbles! Enjoy!
