I don't suppose I am alone here but for much of my caravanning life I have struggled with hose fittings that leak or pop off, I think I have tried every one known to man, from the cheapest two dollar shop versions to the brass sets that cost two months pension, I have even had a go at the type that you can reef on with a shifter...sooner or later they let me down. So, imagine my elation when I think i have finally found the bees knees...and after almost 12 months trialling I feel the urge to pass on my findings to others on this forum...before I do however I hasten to point out that I have no connection to the makers or sellers of these fittings in any way at all but if they happen to read this posting I am always happy to accept cash...lol
Despite the packaging proudly displaying the Australian flag the product is made in Taiwan, I found it being sold in Bunnings stores under the name 'Poly-Tube' and distrubited by Ladco & Co, its blue in colour and can easliy be confused with other blue fittings that I have tried and found to be not as good. I have attached a photo below.
The ladco item differs from most others I have come across in that firstly it is designed to fit both the thin walled irrigation hose as well as a regular garden or caravan type hose....this does give a little clue as to its efficency given that the irrigation hose is quite a bit thinner walled compared to that of a caravan hose, the grip will obviously be better for a start. This however is not the reason for its superior grip on the hose, the shaft that the hose fits on has a groove, one side of the groove is slightly barb shaped and in the groove there sits a rubber 'O' ring, when the hose is pushed into position and the tap is turned on the water pressure forces the the hose back slightly onto the 'O' ring thus forcing it against the back of the groove causing it to grip tighter, the greater the pressure the greater the grip. At this point in time I have not had one instance of this fitting popping off when fitted to a standard 13mm food safe caravan water hose.
I am sure there are many out there who have also found what they think is the 'nuts guts' in caravan hose fittings I am simply passing on my personal experience.
Good to see you have found a good product that does what it is supposed to do. It is very hard with the 'click-in' style fittings.
I have been using Hoselink fittings for about five years and they are excellent - I still have the original 'O' rings even though they provided spare 'O' rings with the product.
