4x4 ute canopies

hi everyone    finally made the step in the right direction and bought a triton   now looking at canopies     some are lined with felt inside but have other down sides    so the question i have is is  condensation a problem if the canopy is unlined     it will be used for carrying gear so i cant imagine condensation is a problem   but will be interested in people that have travelled in the tropics and whether they found this a problem   bearing in mind no

one will be sleeping in the ute   thanks and cheers smile

I had a canopy on my ute, cost me $2000 in 2000 and when I sold the vehicle  with bullbar, towbar, canopy and roof racks got nothing for the extras.

They work well but are a nuisance if you want to put taller items in the tray, and getting to stuff unless you get the lift up sides. I had to get into the tray to get anything on my knees which wasn't easy.

ARB made my canopy - no lining. works just fine. With the amount of dust that gets in I am glad I did not get a lined one. Also got the 'raised' back roof - heaps more head room. Make sure you get a window that opens up in the front so you can clean both ute and canopy windows easily. Mine opens inwards rather than sliding - excellent.
My other reason for ARN was it took a week to make and get fitted - other types all came from places like Indonesia and the time frame was months ........ there were flood problems there at the time.

Hi Tugga, my 3XM canopy is unlined and I have no problems with condensation, and yes make sure the front window can open not only to clean the rear window of the truck but if you drive with it open on dirt roads it will pressureize the canopy and help keep the dust out (doesn't work at slow speed in fact makes it worse) also get some self adhesive rubber strips from clark rubber and put it around where the tail board closes on to

Have just bought ford ranger twin cab ute and also considering canopy. Anyone have any ball park figures for one?
Have just got the soft hook on cover and thinking we could store more and feel more secure with canopy. Any ideas? Anyone had stuff pinched out from under that soft cover?

Hi Buffy, price for new ARB dual cab canopy with 150kg roof racks was $3100.00 in Oct 2010. I would expect with the Ranger being a later release that a similar price would be charged (extorted perhapscry) but a well made Aussie product.

Security issues still exist with a hard canopy, all you can do is the usual anti theft prevention with padlocks/security markings, or alarm.......but if they want it!!

hi buffy  i agree with the comments by ozi2  there are things you cant see regarding quality so you can only go by what other experienced travellers can tell you    ARB seem to be a good make and cost around $3000   give or take a few bucks  be careful about flexiglass  i have heard that the attatchment clips are not so good and then you have dust ingress  cheers

Great divide4.JPGMy ARB canopy was around $2200 from memory - Nov 2010, Perth. I got the 'dimple' surface rather than the smooth one - cheaper.
