Decided that I would go to Point Hicks today - after what seems like miles of corrugations I turned around without getting to the destination - worst corrugations ever. I ended up going to Mallacoota instead, so back to Cann River and turned right. While at Mallacoota I drove to Shipwreck Beach - more corrugations (about 13k of them) but not as bad. Walked down the hill to the beach which was lovely. The climb up the hill was breathtaking - and not in a good way!! The wind has dropped today which us good but means that the waves aren't as good and there are no kitesurfers out today. Might stay here another fews days.

Mile after mile of corrugations worries me. I don't suppose there's any way of anticipating bad roads in advance.

Hi Esmeralda, if you are anywhere near Bemm River there is a camp called Dollys Garden (small vehicles only) on the way in, which has a beautiful view, good bream fishing and a very clean toilet. Thoroughly recomment.

Maybe we should have a thread on here for worst and best stretches of roads / tracks/ My post would be the road that leads to a beautiful place in WA called Steep Point..fishing and camping one of the best places in WA,but the track in 140 odd ks of corragations /sand dunes/ ruts/ pot holes/ the sand build up is so bad if you even move from the middle of the so called road you end up bogged in sand to the diff / and then there is wild goats 100s of them /camels/Emu's /Roo's and no phone service for the whole trip. I had my fingers crossed the whole time we were camped out there it did not rain as you can be stuck for a week .You cannot take off road vans there , it is even hard on camper trailers , we just took the tent,but had to keep stopping to re tighten every thing down on roof racks.So it is a place that you mark off the to do list but never do it again. A lot of those extream fishermen go there to fish off the rocks useing the balloon on line thingo

The Gibb /Gunbarrel/roads are a drive in the park comoeared to this road.

I will keep that in mind for my next trip down that way. I stayed at Marlo for a week in the end and then went back to Thornton via Warragul. The sea breezes certainly kept the temperature down to around 23-26 at the van but a little warmer inland. Certainly noticed the temperature change as I moved away from the coast - 26 one minute and 36 ten minutes later. AFter unhitching the van at my parents I stayed for a day or two before heading back to the relative ?cool of home - well it was only 32.

We have stopped at the free park in Rosedale Helen. Trouble was that the river had just gone down from flooding so we had to be very careful where we put the van otherwise great. It is nice to see that the locals pay for the portable toilets to be there for campers. Well Done Rosedale.
