Totally agree with you Billeeeee in everything you wrote. Has to be the most sensible post I have seen from you. lol Ouch, don't hit me.
Dawa, I had been following your blog which I found very interesting but I notice you haven't posted since last November. I am also saving up for a bigger more late model van, Myrtle won't do me forever so while I enjoy her company I am busy getting the dollars together for a new one too.
How is Matilda going now, you must be enjoying having her around. I am still working on getting a little dog, going to look at one in Childers on Monday.
I ran out of free space on my blog
Matilda had her little OP on thursday Is 36C here today and she is feeling the heat.
Well, there ya go. At 68 I'm still a pup, Dawa. I'm also not keen on long drives like you find in the NT and WA. I read a traveller's blog about those long drives but it was father and son, so they took turns driving. Also they were on a pretty tight schedule of 2 weeks. I intend to pull over every couple of hours no matter where I am and rest, maybe even camp overnight. I'm in no hurry.
As to rigs, I was lucky with my slide-on. It was renovated by a previous owner who did a bloody good job. Something happened to change his travel plans so he sold it. It's a bit "lived-in" on the outside but all new on the inside, with all the goodies including a double bed (inner spring) in the cab over, LED reading lights, a 6' 6" return sofa in the main area with swivel table, all new wiring, air con, built-in stereo, lots of cupboards, nice kitchen, solar, gas/elec fridge, gas cooker, fresh water tank, and heaps of storage underneath the camper. I bought it at auction on eBay for $4700. Actually, I was pipped at the post at the auction, dammit. But the bloke reneged and I was given a second-chance offer next morning by eBay. How lucky! As you know, being on a pension ain't easy, so that $4700 came from everywhere hehe, including a loan from Centrelink.
BTW, does anyone on a pension claim rent allowance for park/camping fees?
Oh... and what's in the mug? Er... I'm not saying. But it's got bubbles in it.

well my bank came good with a small personal loan which i have nearly paid already.
In hindsight I would buy differently but this rig got me started, and the mechanic tells me she is in good shape.
Not sure if i will buy a ute and a caravan or a small motor home and still pull the trailer.
I am not doing the big lap as i am 69 and not up to the long driving in WA so I will just potter around up and down eastern australia.
Dawa
well i have heart issues and other health problems and there is no way i am going to put my body to all the stresses of long hours of driving. And maybe having to be rescued.
There is enough on this side of the continent to keep me content
Dawa
I'm 2 years older than you, with Emphysema, but I'm not going to let that stop me from going all over, once I get started.
Weeeeell, I got this theory that living the gypsy lifestyle and checking out beautiful scenery every day and throwing a snag or two on the barbie and chatting with like-minded souls is just the kinda therapy we need to improve our health and attitude to life. Sure beats the hell out of a hospital bed. I can't prove it, but I suspect my dream of travelling Oz and determination to make it happen helped me through my cancer ordeal last year.
I think you are right Gary... we are both in better health when on the road than at home. Mind you, we take care of our selves, eat healthy etc, probably better than at home.

It would have for sure.
I have had a couple bouts with cancer and is no fun. positive attitude is essential tho
I have to agree on that one. Much less stressfull sitting by a lake or a river enjoying the view, serenity and great company, than being in a house worrying about all that needs to be done and not sure how its going to get done or if you have enough money for all the repairs etc etc.
That is why I enjoy Greens Lake. As soon as I arrive my worries just wash away and I coudn't care less about the outside world. I am sure others have a perfect place for doing the same.
No more from me Marj. Just trying to get the point across that these hiccoughs don't necessarily mean you can't get out there and travel where-ever you want to. I really am wrapped in the Nebulizer Wombat found for me. That's going to make a big difference.
Cheers,
Sheba.

Dawa, a dear friend of both my wife and myself was told 7 years to go home and put his will and all others things in place ,as he would not see the year out. It was such a shock for him to be told that, he packed his motor bike and side car up with camping gear and toured around OZ.He is still travelling, but traded the bike set up in for Motor home and is still travelling. He tells us if he had not taken off around OZ he probably would of died sitting around thinking re what the Dr had told him. He recons he has never felt so well and he recons if he died tomorrow he would not have one regret.

yes one of the reasons i started this was the heart condition. (and the $180 a week rent)
I figured it would be better to die out her than sitting looking at a wooden fence.
Of course when it gets that i really must have this hip replacement it is going to be a bit of a bugger.
