RE: starting over

I had a Nissan Nomad coach for a while with the same kind of entry/exit as the HiAce. I used to pull myself up with the grab handle, swing the bum to the left, and let the momentum carry it over the seat, then I'd let gravity do its thing. It had a tilt steering wheel so I suppose that made it easier to slide the legs under. My current vehicle is more like a car, so I lower myself into the driver's seat. Getting a bit long in the tooth ya know. I can still swing a leg over a bicycle though.

Gypsy Rover, my plan is maybe a short wheel base coaster. A friend is trying to talk me out of it, she said they rust quick as there is a join right across the top from side to side which leaks and causes rust.
I don't really know anything about that but will look into it when the time comes.

I had a rellie bought one HW, it looked fine but when they started to renovate it found it was full of rust, they had to get rid of it.

I'm sure there are some good ones around, but for the older ones get someone to inspect it for rust carefully, among other things.

Well Hello everyone, I havent been around for a couple of months or more till tonight. What an interesting thread. Ive been in hospital for 5 weeks and often wondered what I would change. My Starwagon was resonably fitted out and very comfy but more space would be nice at times. So onthe days I had no Dr's around I let my mind wander. This is what I came up with. Yes I would like a coaster, take the seats out, have the electrics fitted, put in window treatment, find the space on the floor for a mattress and a little one for clothes. I would then put in any of my camping gear, including camp table and a couple of boxes, then camp seats and a couple of stable tables and the go.
day one the kitchen could go in the front next day up the back. I'd keep changing things around until i settled on what it was I'd want... each major shopping area i could then but the brackets and bits to put it where I want to. To save money on the interior building I have Plastic set of drawers.

I find that the first thing I do when Isee any van is make mental changes to it.

I believe that former school coaster buses are best (recently retired ones) as in WA at least they have stringent inspections each year they have to pass for safety of the children and are least likely to be rust buckets, hopefully not the reason they were sold.

Hi Colls,

Sorry to hear you have been in hospital, I hope you're recovering well. I change my Hiace around constantly. I need to do a trip and find out how everything works in it's place and then re arrange again. Half the fun I guess and cheaper than professional conversion.
