I have read re the new door regulations on a few other forums....i am not sure if it is a state to state requierment or national.
Remember yeoleven ( John ) mentioned some regarding this issue in one of his posts a little while back .Some thing to do with quick exit in case of a fire .Best to ask John as he is just about to pick his second hand one up when he gets back from Tasmania.

I won't buy anything registered in VIC because of lack of inspections.

WA also don't have general annual inspections for rust, only inspected if mods carried out or rego has expired and needs to be registered again.
Apparently recently sold school Coaster buses should be ok for rust and safety as they are inspected thoroughly annually in WA being passenger/children transport. They are usually only kept as school buses for a minimum time then updated.
I mentioned on the other thread a relative bought a Coaster that looked ok, but when they started to renovate it found a lot of rust and decided to get rid of it. Apparently it was hidden by cupboards/bed etc inside the van until he removed them.

That was me Dawa. When I told a grey nomad friend I was thinking of maybe looking for a coaster. She said No! Don't touch them. Because of the way they are built they have a join right across the middle from side to side. She said that is the first place they will rust as the join is not protected from the water getting in. I can't say its true or not as don't know myself.

Maybe there is someone out there who can tell us if this is so.
If it has been registered in NSW it will have had to pass inspection each year at least.
I think there is three or four of us looking to buy these and it would be good to know
Someone else wrote that the bifold entry doors are not legal in all states. I did see one for sale with the bifold doors and an outside security door attached. Looked quite good. Hopefully someone can corfirm that one way or the other.

Mechanically they are great, yes they are prone to rusting around the roof/ gutter area. I have to do a little rust removal once a year, other wise they are a great vehicle and would recomend them.
I would only change to upgrade to a larger motorhome as I full time when in Australia.
Always, thank you for the comments on 'Folsom' nickname for the Coaster. That pic taken at a free rest area on the Bruce above Townsville, can't quite remember which. At this moment at my sons house on the Gold Coast, leaving Monday/ Tuesday for Victoria/South Australia for a few months until mid May. Getting away from all this Queensland rain!! John

Thank you for the feed back. I feel this is what I am aiming for and wanting all the information i can get.
There can be issues with any number of recreational vehicles - Coasters included. The main thing is to be aware of possible problems, by doing lots of prior research, and get any vehicle thoroughly checked before purchase.
We initially considered Hino Rainbow - but browsing forums, posting questions etc, uncovered that body roll has been an issue with them.
Can not find -yet, touch wood - rust issues with our Coaster. We know its bus life was not near the coast - where salt air creates rust. I would try to avoid vehicles that have spent long periods near the coast. And - for a year or two - vehicles from anywhere near the regions that have flooded in recent times.
Coasters are certainly a very popular vehicle amongst motorhomers, so I guess there are good reasons for that.
Have a browse of the members market section of the CMCA web site - you do not have to be a member to do so - and you will get a bit of an idea of some Coasters for sale.
Hino roll is only for the narrow body ones imported from Japan.
This can be fixed by purchasing a new 42MM sway bar from a company in QLD and the new bushes and it takes away all or most of the roll.
Very happy with mine after the changed. Used to roll like a bugger now very good and stable with very little sway at all.
I am happy with mone and when you buy any vehicle that is over 20 years old it is very hard to get no rust.
Mine has some and I will slowly get it removed but I am not losing sleep over it and when I get the rego changed to SA if I can ever get there it will be OK. Update the tare and get a MR license and then I can do some jobs on here.
One warning is to check the tare and then make sure it suits your license and then run it over a weigh bridge to see how much you have to play with as one company in QLD strips them and then does the rego and then when fitted they are over so you have no room to move.
Find something you like and then get someone to check it for you.
