don't think its going to be a big problem to get Rego for it John as long everything is ok ( Brakes no oil leaks ect ect ) I had something like that happening with a camper trailor what I own It all will work out for you , before you know you are back on the road mate
The bus hasn't been used for ages because of the lack of rego and now that I have a permit to drive it I find that the carby has a perished diaphram and gaskets causing leaking petrol to pump from the carby. The petrol in the tank and carby is probably a few years old causing the problem. The carby has been taken to a carby specialist who tells me that it has been adapted rather clumsily from the 20R to fit the newer 21RU currently in the Coaster. There are no replacement carbys available throughout Melbourne but good old faithful Ebay has the item and I am about to order one. Another problem to solve is that all these carbys have automatic choke whereas the bus has a manual one fitted. Obviously all the old petrol has to be pumped from the tank and then flushed.
The different motor probably has caused the non identification from Vic Roads and now that I have a new engine number I hope that problem is behind me. The permit for 7 days will be hopelessly understated but will deal with that problem next Tuesday when a more realistic view of the timeframe will be available.
All is well but the costs are increasing with the $380 for the new carby unexpected but still under control, the delays will allow me to get another pension next week before the roadworthy expenses, got to look for the positives.
John, I got a permit for 3 weeks for Myrtle while waiting for the roadworthy to be sorted out. $2,000 later I was able to get the rego. Hope yours doesn't work out that long or that big. And that was before I found out the motor was stuffed. Good Luck.
Only positive thoughts allowed on this thread Marj - no, really, it is going to work out pretty well I reckon. As he says, he will have to go back to RTA to get an extension, which shouldn't be a problem. Has it stopped raining?

I was trying to be positive for John, Jules. Look forward to seeing him on the road soon. Stopped raining, so we are having a big cleanup. The large tree at the back of the carport to the left of the back balcony came out by its roots in the storm, left dangling on the neighbours fence so I bought a chainsaw and Stephen cut it down today. Now cutting it up for carting to the tip. Then on to the 4 gums out in the back paddock that also fell down on the boundary fences. A hell of a lot of work to be done to get everything back tidy.
Hi Marj - John will beok - he has a lot of good help over there - and we know he is the most positive person around - it will go well for him.
Boy, sure a mess around your way - lucky it was only trees and no damage to the house - you didn't get any water down in your place I hope. We have wonderful weather to farewell us over here - it is an amazing place - and the people are just wonderful - free camping is pretty amazing - here at Scottsdale, it used to be a caravan park, but has been turned into a free camp by the Lions Club, with a donation box - 3 x $1 coins gives you a four minute shower - cleaned every day, bbqs, beautiful park at the back with platypus in the ponds, beautiful black ****atoos, with yellow tails in a tree just near us today. A one k walk (up a hill) to the town, which has just about all you need.
Would recommend Tassy to anyone wanting an amazing holiday.

Agh!!!! Dumping wood at the tip. Most gum wood is excellent for winter heating once nice and dry. $350 a stacked trailer load down my way. Cut it, stack it for a couple of years and then offer it for sale. Make a hefty sum for future travels.
But then again, does it get cold in a Queensland winter ?. Maybe that's why your dumping it.
No, no Ole-Grizzly. Not dumping the gums to the tip, only the large tree up by the house. The gums have already dried out and will be stacked up by the house somewhere. Don't have open fires but can be used by anyone camping sometime in the future. The large tree doesn't look suitable for firewood.
I knew someone was going to ask me that Sheba. I was a very tall tree, very dense. Largish roundish leaves that weren't grassy green, more a grey green. It had large yellow flowers that opened up like a large pansy but closed at night or when there was no sun. There was a bit of orange right in the middle of the flower.
Saturday and I have been busy draining the oil from the sump and replacing the oil filter then emptying the old fuel. The seat belt on the drivers side had problems so that was worked on. A second battery was in the bus and I have added it to the car one in parallel. When the rego has been sorted I have been thinking about putting the solar panel in the roof rack and exchanging the fridge from the Hi Ace and generally working out how it will fit. I will not do anything to the Hi Ace until the Coaster Registration has been approved in case there are problems uncovered that may take time to fix and I may need the Hi Ace.
Public holiday Monday and by now the seatbelt problem has been solved and the old fuel has been blown through the fuel lines and drained from the tank, a new filter fitted and ready for filling with fuel once the new carby arrives and gets fitted. The old fridge didn't work and now has been removed what a disaster that was. The fridge was screwed in through a wall into the metal casing and then another wall was built covering the screw heads. Lots of force and sideways cutting through screws was needed almost wrecking the cupboard next to the fridge and the fridge enclosure. Hopefully it can be fixed when the fridge from the Hi Ace is removed and installed, luckily it will fit very nicely into the enclosure. Lots of little jobs have been done, the molded rubber around the back boot needed cleaning off and re fixing. The windscreen washer was not working with a leaking container and missing fuse, fixed up the leak with sikaflex and replaced the fuse, now works well. Checked the oil level in the gearbox and diff and it looks like they both need topping up. Replaced the spark plugs and noticed that the rubber insulation is missing from the leads, buying more tomorrow with the gear oil.
Wednesday morning and the new carby has arrived and as expected there are differences from the old one, mainly the automatic choke has 4 wires coming from the carby whilst the old one had 1 also the bus is manual choke, Chris wants to go to a wrecker and see if there are any Celicas or Dynas still reasonably intact. We have lots of images from Googling 21RU 22RU carburettas so hopefully tonight we may start to install it. I had fun trying to cut a gasket but today will buy one today, also when installing the new spark plug leads the coil was way too far from the engine in the set I bought so I will exchange it for one half as long. I also need the matching plug with the 4 wires coming from it. Not a lot that I can do today apart from the shopping listed so have decided to top up the gearbox and the diff with the Nulon oil that I bought on yesterday's $74 trip to Super Cheap Autos. I now have the 20ltr petrol container on the front of the Hi Ace full ready for the bus.
Thursday morning and the jobs mentioned yesterday have been accomplished and the 20ltrs of petrol has been added. The carby is now bolted on and all the hoses are replaced just the electrics to be done and we can start it up. The biggest job seems to be in actually doing the shopping in a different town where I have no idea where Bunnings, Super Cheap, Bursons, Repco and Toyota are located, spent 3 hours yesterday buying just a few items. Just a couple of small jobs for me today before Chris gets home from work and we hopefully start up the engine, all the filters and fluids have been replaced and topped up, plugs and leads replaced so with the new carby the old bus should spring to life full of energy.
Thursday evening and the carby has now been installed and the engine fired up as soon a the petrol pumped up into the carby but we now have another hassle the petrol pump is pumping fuel out so we can't let the engine run to assess the carby. Petrol pump has now been removed and tomorrow the hoses will be replaced and tighten up clips used as well as a new spacer and gasket. John
