Nyah

We often stay at the Nyah Harness Club when visiting Shirley's Dad who is in the Nyah West Nursing Home. We usually camp up by the river near the water pipe used to fill the tankers. The only negative is that bindies, grass prickles, can be a problem at times so wear good footwear.

The Pizza place up on the highway, if it is still open, does a good pizza. The General store just up from the Pizza place often has a lot of camping gear at reduced prices. We have picked up a number of things from there such as food storage containers, thermos etc. The petrol servo at the corner of the road to Nyah West fuel prices are usually the same, if not better, than in Swan Hill and usually better than up the road at Robinvale

Just up the Highway heading north, so on your way to SA, right next to the Wood Wood Caravan Park is Annes Place, a house with stalls out the front. She makes some great jams and sauces, again at reasonable prices.

Edit
Forgot to add if you need to do a supermarket shop the IGA in Nyah West, about 10km away from the campsite, is OK and is closer than the 40km trip back into Swan Hill.

Found a great free camp behind the Harness Club at Nyah. Big area, trees around the edges, toilet, dump point and drinking water on tap! Will stay a few days then head towards Yorke Pen for Easter. Managed to get into a CP down the bottom.  AND it is cooler today! Whew!

Hi Spida,

Excellent Spida, glad that you have found somewhere nice to hold up for a couple of days. I am looking at where the heck I will head off to and then decided that I had better pull my horns in a little, or I will be doing nothing but driving. Arrrrrrr, just have to take it easy and understand that it is OK to slow down. Nothing to prove to anyone except myself that I can do it alone.

Out of Sale is Paradise Beach. Must be 20 beach front free camp sites  over a distance of 20 km. I'd be very surprised if it's not full up during Easter.. Any good free camp for that matter will probably be crowded out..

Spida, if you are heading any where the Limestone coast in SA a must visit is what is known as the Sandy Grove , part of a fabulous food trail, you can tast native and traditional foods , jams, chutnies, olives, relishes, and so on _ the best part they are all gluten free and preservitive free. Can even park your rig between the olive rows for free and toilets and showers are nearby. There is also a tiny native apple that loves to grow as a ground cover along parts of the Limestone Coast Tastea some what like a Granny Smith Apple , with a hint of cinnamon .Contaning three times more vitaman C than Blueberries and twice the antioxidents .We found them to be deliciouse.

Thank you all for the replies. I love this place already:) 2 hours of happy hour with 4 other couples, they were playing cards all afternoon and hoots of laughter. Local Lions guy came for a chat and full of information. Rugby club does dinner friday nights during the season. Rockylizard popped in to say hello - is working at the local grape juice company.
AND it is cool this morning.

Greens Lake of course - but I also really liked Aysons reserve  near Elmore/Rochester. Dartmoor was a good big area but the loos a bit basic - just needed to get rid of the spider webs etc.  Colac - Meredith Park, Fitzroy River near Portland, or if you want lots of bush- Sawpit in that area also.

Hi Spida,

I was at Greens lake over the last few days in the heat and was disappointed with the mud around the lake, had a bit of trouble getting in far enough to get wet, that was before I found the boat ramp, a bit easier to get wet there at least, had probs with my batteries, all failed, so had to leave to get new ones but will check out your other suggestions before Easter, I want to be in well before Easter and settled before any crowd build up, I will have to check out "Sawpit" my property at Delegate is called "Sawpit" as well, thanks for the suggestions.

Hi BG

Thanks for the suggestion of Paradise beach, I have been there before and it is a nice place but I'm in the north west area this time through and am looking for spots in the western part of Vic towards S.A. later on, before heading north through Broken Hill around may - June, maybe!!!! making it up as I go.

Hello Spida, must remember that camp. How have you been ??? I have been back at Greens Lake, not many campers, Ziggy is there & Wombat. Busy at the week-end. Enjoyed Tassie, caught up with family & friends. Camped with John Billee & Jules at Gowie Park. Hope this message finds you well & happy.

Hi Kevin, This is part of a post I wrote some months ago. I travelled from Adelaide to Renmark then across to Mildura then down to Melbourne. You might be able to pick out some interesting spots if you are passing any of these towns :  I left the main highway to Renmark, taking a secondary road, coming to the small town of Sedan. A lot of historical houses and buildings in this small town. Overnight stop at the rear of Sedan Hotel. Powered sites $5.00. Unpowered free. Why so cheap, the Publicans, Dave and Sue Pinnington, will be happy if you have a few drinks in their very friendly bar and partake of a very hearty and delicious meal or counter lunch. I stayed 2 nites, and thoroughly recommend this stopover to members.

River crossings in South Australia have no bridges, just a vehicular ferry. Youll find one at Swan Reach. Before crossing the river is a very popular free camping area on the banks of the Murray. (Recommended) Moving on to Berri I found Martins Bend free camping area. Situated on the Murray, this camp ground is free. Stop and register with the Caretaker on entry. It has toilets and dump point with potable water not far away. This is one of the most impressive camps I have stayed at. (Highly recommended).

Moving on to Renmark, nothing for me there but across the river is the small town of Paringa. Good Caravan Park with Dump Point. $25.00 for a powered site. At Mildura, ask the Information Centre for directions to Kings Billabong. About 10 km out of town, situated on the Murray, another very popular free camp, but no facilities. (Recommended) There is water and a Dump Point at the Council offices in the City.

Hope that helps..... Ken.

You're welcome. Bear in mind what I have described is the reverse direction to the one you are taking...

Hi Ken,

Thanks for the info, very helpful, I will be heading that way and at least you've given me some interesting spots to check out, it's always helpful when someone has actually been in a spot, looking at the camps book helps but first hand knowledge is great.

Thanks again.

Kevin.
