I think a The Grey Nomads Pennant would be good too, one you could clip or tie to your car aerial when camped.
I have some reservations about the new male/female Grey Nomads stickers, if a solo female was on there own, those following them or parked near them in a free camp etc would know they are a solo female. Just my thoughts. Perhaps a female GN could buy both a male and female one to put on their vehicle/van to keep others guessing. I much preferred the old stickers as they were none gender specific.

I received notification today that our bumper stickers are on their way, good news, as we hope to get on the road very soon and we'll be able to display them and hopefully will meet up with other Grey Nomads. I seem to recall reading on this Forum quite some time ago that some Nomads tied a grey ribbon to their car aerial as a means of recognizing each other and wondered if this was still done to help with identifying other G.N. Cheers, Annie
Vic, I actually did exactly that, I bought a male and female sticker to put on my MH when the time comes. I love them, I think that they stand out and a little different.

Good thinking.......I like the idea of a pennant though!
Well, it appears that grey ribbons aren't in, but I think I'll refrain from airing my "smalls" on the aerial - hate to send out the wrong message. Especially if you were displaying a pink bumper sticker!
I bought blue stickers, as I don't think Les would appreciate me putting pink ones on the van and car. I don't think he likes driving my Aurion with pink blanket and purple butterfly pillows on the back where the speakers go lol.
I think the ribbon would have to be brighter to stand out - even though we are Grey Nomads. We didn't find any GNs on our last trip and we have an old sticker on the back of the van. I asked one solo traveller if she belonged to any group but she said 'no' -preferred not to.
Just looking at the new The Grey Nomads newsletter edition on the main page, Cindy uses a grey colour on her banner which is similar to the members stickers, I think Grey on the stickers would look great and could be used by either sex without being gender specific.
Edit: This is similar to the current male one, grey/blue, but moustache and possibly glasses would have to be removed.
On another way to recognise GN's, alternatively to the previously mentioned pennant, I wonder if Cindy could do a ribbon that had The Grey Nomads logo on it, leaving a gap in the middle so the ribbon could be tied? Or those with plain ribbons could use a permanent marker pen and write GN or Grey Nomads on it irrespective of what colour????
Just a thought !!

I so agree re grey ribbon - but then we have to decide just what colour Maybe yellow hasnt been used for anything else? Or we could plait pink and blue to match the nomad signs. I would like a non gender nomad sign - does using the pink one let people know I am a lady on my own?

After reading Spida's reply re the colour yellow, I had a bit of a Google, and apparently yellow stands for sunshine, hope and happiness and is used to promote special feelings, which is just what us Nomads are after I would think. So, just as an experiment, when we get on the road again I might try a couple of strands of both grey and yellow ribbon on the aerial and see what happens. Not wishing to be pushy, just curious............... Cheers, Annie
Hi all, Many thanks for the suggestions. We're in the process looking into ideas for different kinds of GN merchandise and it's great to get your feedback. Please let us know if you have any other thoughts or suggestions for GN items and we'll look into it.
Fantastic idea Jules caps, badges, sew on patches.... I also think GREY ribbon on the ariel is a bit drab and boring and invisible, you wouldn't see it on most vehicles... but pennants sound awesome.

I think pennants may be ok when camped at free camps and caravan parks, but may shred if used when travelling or put undue strain on the aerial if fitted there, same for small flags.
A purpose made ribbon on the other hand with The Grey Nomads logo or something on it that is light and can be tied easily may be a better option.....just my thoughts...If these were available from the GN shop, along with the pennants/small flags that would be good.
I have had a ribbon on my aerial since Oct last year and I don't think anyone has taken any notice.
I got a banner made from Vistaprint with my design (it shows a savannah scene at night fall) and then I have my usual forum name and then the different forums I am on.
This I sometimes hang from my awning but not always and no one has every remark so not sure what you would need to make people take notice.
I have just received my sticker and my stubby holder and I have a group meeting next weekend so will see if anyone notices.
Most are from three different forums and not sure if any are from grey nomads as it was all organised on another forum so be interesting to see if any pick it up.
Will also use my stubby holder as well and see if that is recognised by anyone.
As long as you are enjoying life nothing else matters anyway.
Every new person you meet could be your new best friend
Regards Brian
