Lightning Ridge NSW

Hi All, I made it to Lightning Ridge today. I was hoping to meet up with Ziggy (Esperian) and/or Helen (Eureka) but unfortunately that didn't work out as planned.

I wanted to report that Lorne Station (Camp6 NSW 999) has reopened. 5 km from Town via a good dirt road on a 10000 acre property. Very basic amenities and

rates of $10 without power and $30 with? All the Caravan Parks are expensive. There is a Rest Stop on the Hwy 5km before the turnoff but is small and will fill up quickly i expect.

I will stay here a couple of days before moving on.

Cheers

Steve

Steve - make sure to head out to The Grawin - The Hilton Hotel, and the Pub in a Shed (I think was the name) - but anyway - heaps of good people out there - and sometimes the best opal deals are done at the pub - may be able to camp out there, not sure - ask around - also head out to the hot baths - around 4 - 4.30 in the arvo - everyone goes - it is great - can get bloody hot though. The cave of hands is worth a visit - this guy has carved all sorts of things into the walls of an old opal mine - amazing to see!!! A good meal to be had at the Workers Club too.

Anyway - enjoy - see you on the road!

 Hi Steve.

Sorry it didn't workout to meet at LR. I had to stay couple of weeks longer than I intended. I'll be going there any time soon, may be even this week if I'll get what I need today.. Here at Green Lake  it is getting much cooler, even cold at nights. Thank you for usefull info. See you somewhere on the way.

Ziggy.

Im really disappointed I couldnt make it Steve; life just gets in the way sometimes. Thanks for the info on Lorne Station, greatly appreciated.

I look forward to another time that we might cross paths and am following your blog with much interest.

And Jules, I've noted your LR points of interest, thanks

Helen

Hi All I got to the Club in the Scrub and the Golf course but didn't make it to the Hilton, the road was just too bad and the Hiace was complaining

I didn't want to wreck my only home. I know that the Pub must have been close but I couldn't risk any damage, it was hard enough to get back out of there anyway.

I have travelled a fair way since then and am now at a great free camp near Ingelwood Qld (Camps6 Q804) a lovely spot beside the river. Am doing Warick, Stanthorpe, Texas

circle then Bonshaw Weir. After that heading back to the coast for Nelson Bay at the end of May. After another two or three weeks I will be off to FNQ.

Cheers Steve
