Last November I made a new 12 month plan to buy a Coaster:-
http://yeoeleven.blogspot.com.au/2012/11/my-new-12-month-plan.html
and in December found a suitable one and did a deal:-
http://yeoeleven.blogspot.com.au/2012/12/update-to-my-new-12-month-plan.html
Now I am pleased to say the the coaster is registered and I can officially drive it, but not without many hassles along the way. All documented here in various posts as I progressed slowly to today's result.

Many said that they would never buy an unregistered vehicle without a roadworthy but really I didn't have any choice, I had minimum funds and it was just not possible to buy a coaster prepared to that level with a $3000 down payment but I risked that deposit and was able to pay the balance of $3500 by the time I left Tassie. Since then living in Frankston with Jules' son Chris and his partner Paula I have been able to finally achieve my goal around $4000 later.

The main problem was lack of registration history and the need for an Engineer's Certification to convert the bus into a mobile home as well as the requirement to reduce the GVM from 4520kgs (over the C class drivers license by 20kg) down to 4495kgs. Obviously the next problem was the roadworthy but with Chris's help that was achieved. The 2 previous owners were daunted by the problems associated with registering the coaster and just gave up and sold it.

So what now? Firstly I have to pay back one of my friends who bought the shockies at a time when I couldn't so that looks like the next pension is partially taken up but I am expecting to leave Frankston in a northerly direction visiting Kyabram for a couple of days before visiting friends from my time in Esperance in October 2011 now living near Lakes Entrance.   John

The work I have done inside the coaster has mainly been inconspicuous installations like anderson plugs, reversing camera, tachometer, solar panel wiring, additional batteries and 12 volt sockets.

The only changes have been the new fridge and removing a car seat to use the area to store the Coleman Hot Water On Demand unit and the generator. Above that area now has a bench top where I will house a fridge freezer eventually, I will post a couple of pics showing the changes tomorrow but the rest of the inside will still look the same as shown in the Update to my 12 Month Plan link posted earlier.   John

Yep, as a mate of mine says, keep your eyes on the prize. And that's what you've done, John. You must be feeling very pleased with yourself, and with good reason.

So now you can get back to travelling and seeing more of the Big Playground.............and we can now settle back and follow your travels again too. I think that I can say for all of us here in The Grey Nomad Forums, that we have missed reading of your travel adventures and pics................So get out there now and do it.....Keep Safe Mate.....Sarg.

Pictures of the Coaster when I bought it can be found in the Update link earlier in this post but now I am adding some pics of the interior where changes have been made. The padded silver foil across the windows is in place with velcro and hopefully will keep out some of the cold in the evenings. The extended bench creates a place for a fridge freezer.            John

Well done John from us too. 'Perseverance' must be your middle name. We were once told by a friend that he admired us for enjoying travel with what we could afford (1982 poptop Viscount) and we would admire you for sticking to a tight budget and being prepared to wait until you could afford it before you did it. Well done. Now I am sure you will enjoy more travel just as much as you did before - just in more comfort. Congratulations.

Hey young timer, what a great job you have pulled off. It's just an example of what can be done when you put your mind to it and you have certainty shown that is in your nature. The end result looks wonderful and by the looks of iI will be a dream to own and travel in. Once again, well done.

Best regards

Brian and Cheryl
