To transport fishing rods if no where else safe to transport them while on the road or parked up over night , is to sling them inside the RV from the roof. This is as easy as locating a couple of the roof supports towards the front and back, possibly to one side of the central hatch by pressing the roof liningup and tapping it. Then drill a small pilot hole and screw in a couple of self tapping hooks. I've been carrying my rods this way for years, and find they;re almost flush with the sealing, Oh and i put a zip tie to keep them together and a old sock over the rod tip where it might touch the roof. ( have even used a old shoe lace to tie the rods together )
My rods are all two piece & I carry them standing in a back corner of my clothes cupboard.
They are held in place by a bit of green garden tie wire attached to a small screw in hook in the wall frame.
I have a 100mm pipe with lockable ends that I used to use but found the cupboard solution easier ... don't usually carry surf rods so length is no problem.
On our last trip I carried my 2 spinning rods in the back of the Territory fully rigged - both about 7ft long. Well now they are only 6'6" long because no one told me they'd stick out of the front door opening when the door was opened, and get squashed when closing the door.....Ok, I was too stupid to realise that and I'll wear it. I did not tell my wife. I've since bought 2 new rods that are each 8' long which is too long for me to be tempted to carry them in the car again and now they travel occy strapped up under the Avan. I am a slow learner.
We have just ordered 2 fishing rods about 2.4 metres in length that fold down and pack away in a small bag not bigger than 45 cm. Gear comes with reel and line plus a waist belt full of practical fishing hocks lures weight etc etc. plus a rod holder on the belt. Can then operate hands free.
Cost was 2 x $28 = $56. Beauty is that we now do not have to worry as to where to store same. "Just Google Catch of the day" and they should be there.
Now the proof of the rod will be when the fish catch themselves on these lines. Note the fish have to catch themselves as I am not fisherman.
