This is really a tip from Kaid. Visited her yesterday, and she showed me some Large Micro-fibre Towels. Camping stores stock them, [I googled some last night.] and although not real cheap, they are very light-weight, and don't take up much space.
I'm going to get a couple just for the Van tomorrow. They come in various sizes, from small, to almost Bathsheet size.
I'll give you an update tomorrow Marj. Will really take notice of how they feel now. PM Kaid. They're using theirs now. they can give you a first-hand report quicker than I can.
I have had a couple of microfiber towels since they appeared on the market ... Very lightweight, space efficient and quick drying. This style of towel may be the replacement for the hiking, cycling, light weight camping towel which was basically a large type of chamois. I used them often when camping with guides.
of course, you can't beat, a soft fluffy towel after a shower, but when space is important, the microfiber towel is great. Lets face it, the difference between the two in space would equal a cask of Chardonay....lol

Bought a [medium ?] 45X80 Cm. one at BCF today. I think it's a different brand to yours Kathy. Brand name 360 degrees, this one cost just under $10. Feels like soft cloth Marj. Will try and find a larger one later on.
If you do like the lite weight, easy to wash and dry microfibre towels keep your eyes open and check out harris scarfes stores if you have one close by, I bought 2 a couple of months ago, almost bath towel size and they were about $7.00 each from memory, they are great! Very good for drying off wet whippets too!

I don't like the feel of them, but I have a couple of very thin cheap towels which dry fairly quickly. When I worked at Target several years ago, we sold them for $3 and I called them dog towels because I reckoned that's all they were good for.  Now I know they're good for camping too!
On occasion we travel with four kids. At Christmas we are away for 2 weeks. So at least 6 towels, (we actually carry about 9) could be a major space issue. I have converted everyone to the lightweight towels and we have had no complaints. (And if anyone is going to complain, it's kids!!!) They all fit easily in the little cupboards above the bed with plenty of space to spare. There are varying types of material and we have found the best ones to be Denali brand from Anaconda (There are two different types in this brand so check which suits better) The ones we have are quite soft. Somewhere between the chamois and microfiber..they are super absorbent and dry very quickly. Also very quick and easy to wash/dry. When they go on sale they are very reasonably priced (under $20 for large). Best of all they take up SOOO much less space. Like anything, it's just a matter of getting used to it.
It seems that every photo we take of our camp shows towels hanging somewhere. It drives me nuts, but we still don't like the microfiber ones. Bought a couple ages ago, very expensive, only used them once. It obviously takes a while to get used to them, but himself said no way.

I can't get used to them either, they feel like they "catch" on any bit of rough skin or torn fingernail. There's not much spare space in my van but I've made room for the extra-large fluffy bathsheet! Priority for me
