Oakey Creek Reserve Bowenville between Toowoomba and Dalby

Set off from Boonah mid morning and and drove to Bowenville via Toowoomba and the Toowoomba Range. No problems climbing the range even though the Coaster is not powerful it has good torque and 5 forward gears helps.

Had lunch at Helidon where I camped last September en route to the Millmerran Camp Oven Festival. It certainly has had a facelift and big signs prohibiting camping. Not sure if the signs were for the area bounded by posts because there is another area where I camped last year.

Followed the Warrego Highway through Toowoomba and Oakey and found Bowenville before Dalby. This is a huge open area that could never be camped out with room for the biggest rigs. On the river it has good amenities with flushing toilets and covered seating for picnics etc., all in all a great camping area. I have Optus internet and have put up the TV antenna with 25 channels and 5 radio channels too.

Have set up for camping for the first time since Hay and have the new stuff out being used, looking good if I do say so myself. Not sure how long I will be here but definitely not moving tomorrow, the next objective will be Theodore where I have been told it is just the place I like with walking distance to the town.   John

You certainly look well set up now John.  I'll bet you don't know yourself with all that extra room.

Cheers,

Sheba.

I like the herbs and spices on the door! No plain cooking for John.

Sounds like a good spot for me to find on my way down next week John. Is it in the Camps book?
You do certainly look well set up.

yes Marg Camps6 #623. You don't need to go into Bowenville the turnoff is on the highway coming south on the right.

I am well set up now, all I need is more solar panels. Today I had to use the generator but then it was raining over the past 2 days and those two deep cycle batteries do not get benefit from the car's alternator.

That looks wonderful John, the place and your set up. Is that a spirit stove? How do you find it, if it is?

 Hi Janette,

the stove is from the Hi Ace and is connected to the gas bottle under the bus via flexible hoses.

There used to be gas in the bus but it was removed by a previous owner, I think that the certification costs were high so he got rid of it.

If you're interested in bird life, visit Broadwater Lake just near where you are.

Good to hear John - Bowenville is not a bad spot at all. They reckon at Easter they get about 3,000 campers there - you look well set up for a few days. Enjoy, hope the weather is on the improve - had a thunderstorm here last night!!

See ya!

RE: Oakey Creek Reserve Bowenville between Toowoomba and Dalby updated

Saturday night and I had planned a couple of nights here but that was on Wednesday and I have found friends here and enjoyed the camp, was actually fishing for a while yesterday. One guy caught 2 yellowbelly and that gave me some encouragement. I set up as he did but with worms he had shrimp and all I got was snags and lost hooks, swivels and sinker. Not for long my new found enthusiasm died, the rods are still at the side of the bus made up but the cold weather here suggests that they will remain there.

I plan to stay here until Wednesday morning when I will travel to Kumbria free camp to meet up with Marg who will be travelling south from Biggenden. I will then visit Marsol in Noosaville to buy the solar panel and kit to upgrade my energy situation and travel up to Gin Gin where I will visit John again and get set up. Have added a few more photos of this great campsite.  John

Good one John, perseverance is what pays with fishing they tell me - but that is one thing I don't have the patience with the bloody things! Glad you like Bowenville - thought you would. Love your photos - the sunset is wonderful - we had a great one here the other night as well - still in Boonah - leave tomorrow.
Say G'day to Marj and Jackmac
