I found the step into the Hi-ace very slippery when getting in with wet shoes, so I've glued some of the Rubber Shelf Lining onto it.  Works like magic.  First lot has now worn out.  Will replace it in the next day or so.

I once suggested to my mother that instead of carpeting the whole house, it would be cheaper to buy a little bit of carpet and stick it on the soles of our shoes. To this day I've never been able to figure out why she was unimpressed.

On a previous van I owned it had the steps out side the van not the drop down inside type,i tried every thing to over come this slippery problem and the only thing that worked and was long lasting was to paint the step/steps with some metal paint with some sand mixed in to it.Made the steps then none slippery and had some grip under foot.

I purchased a small artificial grass mat, it was all finished neatly with overlocking around it, husband trimmed it to size and glued it in place, turned out to be one of our best projects.

Bit of ribbed rubber from Clarke Rubber and a tube of sole glue worked for me 10 years old now and looks like I got it yesterday

I think I should have been more specific.  I was originally talking about the step up to the drivers' seat, not the one into the living area. 

My solution was a cheap quick-fix, with materials I had on hand.  Some of yours are more permanent, and require a larger outlay.

All great ideas. I don't use the step on mine because it sits a bit too high off the ground for me. I just use one of those sturdy plastic steps. When it's wet weather, I put an old towel on it.

You can bye a stick on none slip emery tape, used on alloy fuel tanks of trucks to stop slipping when you walk on them.

Oh yes, I put a couple of strips of that on the door section of the back bumper of the van. At my sons suggestion, when he made the bumper. From memory, I  got it from a cheapy shop Sheba, but probably Super Cheap would have it too. Or Bunnings.
