Boulder Creek again

Set off from Carmila Beach at 8am heading for Mackay where we did our grocery shopping and set off on our different ways. Mel wanted to go to Airlie Beach and stay in a caravan park and I had previously decided to go to Boulder Creek once again.

This is a great camp site, when I arrived I was greeted by different families and offered a couple of options of camp sites. There was plenty of room between a caravan and a Hino bus in a sunny location. I spoke to both families before reversing into the spot and got on well with both, they had previously foraged for firewood and we had the best time round an open fire at night.

This is the third time that I have been to Boulder Creek, the first time when returning to the Gold Coast after my round Australia trip and the second with Steven after catching up with him at Bluewater Park and then going to Eungella National Park. This has the makings of being an excellent camping experience often the company makes or breaks it.

I have 25 TV channels although I havent watched a program yet and between Optus and Telstra I have the weakest signal, cant open a web page let alone post on the blog or forum. Carmila was like that for the internet but during the afternoon I was able to post, hopefully this may happen here but for now I am posting to a Word Page for pasting later.

It is easy going from Boulder Creek southwards there are signs leading to Mirani and Mackay but not so easy when there are no signs pointing the way to Boulder Creek when visiting from the south. Take the Peak Downs Highway and then the signpost sends you to Mirani on the right. Follow that road past the turnoff to Eton and take the Mt Ossa Road. Follow that until you see a signpost taking you to Proserpine on the right and eventually another signpost will take you to Calen and the Boulder Creek camp site is on that road which after camping will take you on to Calen and northwards.

Was talking around the fire last night about how people found this place and most were from Camps and some Wiki but one couple had Googled Boulder Creek and got here via my blog, this was amazing to me that it was instrumental in getting people to this camp site. There are many hits from Google but this is the first time I have actually met someone through the blog. This is now Sunday and I still am posting on the word document having not had internet since Friday morning at Carmila.

Just had another excellent day, we found a huge log in the undergrowth near the camp and took a 4WD and a rope, dug it out and dragged it back to the camp. The camp fire was amazing, we put the log in the middle of the fire and will see how long it takes to burn it in half. Looks like we may be here for a while non of us seem to be in a hurry to leave..................so much for getting to Townsville by tomorrow.

Sunday night and I have the weakest signal, unable to post pictures, hopefully this will post to the forum the blog won't publish. John

Love the Toad shot John.  From the sound of it, Boulder Creek is not far from a place my partner of the time, and I stayed at on our first trip North in a Kombi, around 40 years ago.  A local farmer let us camp on his property.

Not far from there, was a place where a UFO was supposed to have landed at one time.  The son of the family who owned that farm, found a piece of metal where it had landed.   He hid it in his room, but a few days later, it was gone.

[ Camerons' Pocket ?]  It was where the road wound around the side of the hills.

Gee, I can't believe it was that long ago.

We used to watch the [UFO ?] Light dancing along the top of the range at night.  We called it "Charlie".  It used to appear at the same time every night, and do all sorts of acrobatics including the "Falling Leaf" one for at least an hour.

Cheers,

Sheba.

Had no internet during the past week, it is now Friday morning and the good times roll on. The log we brought back on Sunday lasted for 4 nights before being totally reduced to charcoal and since then more have been dragged back. Note the picture with the toad emerging from the smoke. I have plenty of pics but not the strength of signal to upload them, later after I leave here I will return and upload them.

Another amazing coincidence, a couple of German backpackers Lawre and Audrey whom I met in Stott's Reserve near Tweed Heads have called in and have followed my suggestion of camping stopovers on their northward journey. They were as surprised as I was when they rocked in with their Mazda van to see my coaster and me waving to welcome them. The girls have been here for several days now enjoying the company in this fantastic camping ground.

Have spoken to Billeee and Jules whilst they were at Calliope and they intend to call in when they get this far northward, hopefully in a couple of days. My Coleman Hot Water on Demand has broken where the power cord attaches so I have pulled down the shower tent, so no shower and I had to go to the river for a swim and clean up. All very distracting with the girls in their bikinis and the cold water, I know I only went to be sociable and possibly will have to do it all again tomorrow.

Wednesday morning and I have been here since a week last Friday, have had such a good time been in no hurry to leave, Billeee, Julie and Solo Steve arrived last Sunday and have settled in too. We have had a lot of rivalry about the forthcoming State of Origin game that will be played tonight with a huge audience here at the camp.

The kelpie shown with Julie was left here or was lost here about 6 weeks ago and the local farmer who owns the camp site was pleased that Greg and Shara with their children Chelsea and Joel decided to adopt the dog and add it to their family. If ever I decide to have a dog for travelling company it would be a kelpie, not too big and not too small, just about right and seemingly with good temperament and intelligence.

We have been dragging huge logs back into the site with Gregs 4WD and had a big fire every night. Note the toad emerging from the smoke. I have bought a jaffle iron and after the first debacle have steadily improved to the extent that the last couple have been toasted just right and opened easily. The first effort was burned black and needed soaking to get the bread off, it failed to open and the contents were sprayed everywhere.

The plan is to go to Home Hill free camp tomorrow to catch up with shopping and washing then to Townsville by mid day Friday in time to visit Jaycar and a Coleman dealer before heading up to Saunders Beach or Bluewater Park if Saunders is full. I have removed the regulator from the folding Solar Panel and rewired it near the battery and intend to buy a better one with guages to replace it.

 Hi Doug,

plan to go to Saunder's Beach on Friday and camp there if possible but it is small and I may have to go to Bluewater.

The Friday was last Friday, the post was written on a Word page and it has taken me almost a week to post it but it is easy on the road to add or miss a day or so.

Catch up soon,

John
