travelling north

I shall be travelling north at the end of this month.     was going to go early september but decided yesterday to go a month early.

Need to get the roof repaired and to pick up some stuff I left in Casino.

Will probably go up the new england h/way and back the coast as i need to see friends in port mc and Gosford.

This will be a travel trip not my usual stay in each place at least two weeks........I expect to be gone about 10days only.

Does anyone know a place in/near Port Macquarie I can camp one night with Matilda please.

Dawa

You could always try the PM Base Hospital car park. It's huge. Packed during the day but hardly anyone there after 5 or 6pm until about 8am. There's a new section at the far end away from the main entrances and private. Type port macquarie base hospital in Google and you'll see a map there with a button for directions.

Hi Dawa, I parked on Short Street (off Clarence St) for a night a couple of months ago, its right in town on the Hastings River.  There were smaller vans and overnighters parked there right where the hire boats are, if you still have the van and not towing, just don't put any furniture out and no one will ask you to move on.

There's Coopernook State Forest  not far from Port. That Port hospital carpark I've parked for the day waiting for an appointment probably where Gary describes. I spent a night under a road bridge between Port and Kempsey with other MHs but there is a no camping sign there now.

Thank you everyone.     I will be towing the trailer but I like the boat ramp area idea.

The cp won't let me have Matilda even tho she is a companion dog.

It is just the one night while i drop craft items off to the animal welfare and catch up with a friend.

In Gosford I stay with good friends for 3 days Then home probably down the freeway

Thanks again

Dawa

I think you are being a bit free, and cheeky, with the term Companion Dog and expecting favours from Caravan Parks.

Is your dog a trained/certified Companion/Assistant dog?

In the past I have had dogs that have achieved Obedience Trial titles CD and CDX after their names, which equates to Companion Dog and Companion Dog eXcellent. I now have a dog whose breed is classified as a Companion Dog.
They are not like Guide Dogs so don't get any favours. They are just another dog.

You travel with a dog as a companion, just like many thousands of others. Guess no harm in trying, LOL.

 Not cheeky at all.

I have a severe mental disorder PTSD and I am hearing impaired.

Matilda is my ears she tells me when there is someone around.   iIwould never Hear anyone.

Matilda also tells me when the phone is ringing as I don't always hear it but can still use it at present.

I think you are the cheeky one in judging another person like that.

Other parks allow me on this basis.

Dawa

We have camped out at Wauchope show grounds.

Another spot I would recommend is out at Ellenborough about 15ks from Wauchope ,,if travelling west from Wauchope make a right hand turn just prior to the phn box (easy to miss ) as you come out of a cutting and hit the turn off, with no warning.

If you miss it just keep driving cross bridge up a slight rise and make a U turn out side of police station and drive back .

If you end up camping out there you can have a fire and there is toilets.

While out there check out the suspension bridge over the Hastings river watch out for sign to Kindee and a couple of ks east of Ellenborough

bridge just off Oxley H/Way.

Dawa  forgot to mention you can have little Matilda with you there also.

NO  fee to stay when we were there .

Dougwe's suggestion re animal welfare people is a good one dawa. Even if they don't have enough space to park you they might know a good place for you to go. Is there anything at Wauchope? That's not too far off track.

Hi again Dawa, it is about 40 odd ks from Port Mac ,but is a safe and quiet place. Very nice little area we ended up staying a few days there, much safer than parked up in Port, from memory I think you can stay 14 days.

I would like to say thank you to all of you with helpfull ideas and hints.

Not looking forward to being IN Casino as it is to sort out a family problem.

However I am sure going to enjoy the trip up and back.

New England highway going up and coast coming back in order to see friends.

Special thanks to Herbie for the Ellensborough site.  I think it will be just the ticket for one night.

Early start next day and morning tea with friend in Port and then down to Gosford for 2-3 nights with friends before coming back here to finish tidying the camper ready for selling. \

I'm glad that you are still home in that storm Dawa, not much fun when you are travelling to have weather like that.

I don't travel in bad weather.  the wind catches the camper and makes driving so hard.
