Hi Brian,

Welcome to the forum.

I started out from the Gold Coast in 2011 to do the lap, you may be interested in following my trip I recorded every stop and happening on my blog which can be found under my signature. There is a drop down list of ways to view the blog under an arrow at the top left, possibly Timeline would be suitable.

All the best for your trip.

John

Welcome Brian!
I may be stating the obvious, best advice I can give is to get a copy of the Camps Australia book (up to version 7, I believe. It allows you to plan your stops and from there, I have found the Information Centres are very helpful in what to see & do, as well as the numerous brochures for the particular area, region or State for that matter. If you aren't pressed for time, you just meander from one interesting spot to another on your way around. I prefer National Parks but to each his own, so now you've made the first step, ENJOY!
