I've done a quick search and couldn't find any info on this subject. Occasionally, I pull into a park and am always charged the same amount as for two people. Why is this so?
Today, thinking about my recent trip, I found a caravan park receipt showing, under how many people staying overnight, was written 'two' but I am only one.
No Helen this is definitely not fair. What do they say when you question them? In my travels (not enough unfortunately!!) I have been charged for a single and for 2 people as well. Perhaps they think that the vehicle is taking up a site where they could get money for 2 or more people - I really don't know.
Because they can!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So I haven't seen the inside of a caravan park for over a year.
But later I will go to the caravan park at Yungaburra (Lakeside Caravan Park) because I was told that they charge per person, I phoned to verify that and was told that for a solo overnight unpowered site would be $7.50.
I've driven into half empty cp's and asked about discounts for singles and then driven out again when told it would be over $25 just for me. What would couples expect if they both had to pay $25? I'm currently in Byron Bay in a cp that charges by the person and though a couple might baulk at $36 I find it refreshingly reasonable at just $18.

I would have thought that charging for the site would make more sense than charging per person. Two solos would occupy two sites whereas a couple or a family would occupy a single site. BTW, I'll be going solo when the time comes, so I'm being objective.

This is indicitive of the whole hospitality industry. Try booking a cruise or tour as a single. Thought about a European river cruise, the cost for me alone was more than a couple by the time they charge all the single supplements. decided against it once I got over the shock.
I am surprised that the industry has not caught on, that today there are many more singles travelling and not only in the upper age bracket, many younger people are now choosing to remain single and let's face it they are usually the ones with the money.
I know travelling last year and staying in CP's we were charged per couple, per site and then extra for the third person in the MH. That was myself and two teenage grandchildren. Guess that's life. is it fair probably not. Just life!

Most caravan parks down this way charge per site. I think there is an additional per person charge is there is more then one. Last one I stayed at it was $125 a week for a patch of grass - PYO (Pay your own) power with those little token thingomahjiggers.

There are some solo rates around. I have been lucky and found a few CV Parks that gave me a solo rate after I asked. I even had a couple of parks give me a solo discount and a senior discount, a double whammy, so they are out there.
I found they don't offer or advertise, you have to ask about it.

If you are solo - ask for a single rate - we have been travelling recently with two solos, and they have got a different rate than us when we have been in caravan parks. (Not often in one though!!!!!)

It happened on me too. I really don't get it but I was thinking maybe there are hidden charges or whatever is there. I'm trying to see the difference when traveling solo or couple. I think you can save more if you aren't traveling solo. IMO.
I've just come back from two weeks through Vic. I assumed I would just get charged the rate for two people as I was taking up a site, but on my last night when the manager found out there was only one, the cost went down from $25 to $20 so I guess it pays to ask. I certainly will next time.
