I'd support a section for women.

There are a large and diverse group of us GNs, and although lots of us contribute, there are occasions when women feel a bit "out of it", for example, some of the technical stuff is over my head, and many of the jokes are, well, not women friendly.

As women, we have experiences to share some of which are shared with the men and some are not.

I think if we did a roll call of women GNs, we would be surprised at the variety, and the number of women who are lurking, just reading but never posting their own thoughts.

There is an old toast, taught to me by an old and grandmotherly woman many years ago, and to which I often lift a glass...

......... Here's to us. Good women are scarce.

Dawa you're still a GN even if you don't move around, you still have much to offer, we don't need more folk dropping out.

You can share your activities, even if it's only a book...lot's of readers here.

Patchwork, crocheting, knitting, scrapbooking, family history, reading, about the book not what you're reading it on, that can always be another thread, sort of a hobbies spot..... this site doesn't cover everyone...need a SPOT for girlie talk stuff ladies might find

important, but men find uninteresting.

The men, mostly, have techie cnr. which gets too laden with men trying to outdo one another or correct one another, in the end I can't follow so mostly leave it, it's disappointing though as some of the subjects are relevant to me, but they become sooo technical it's

totally out of my reach.

Robyn

Still keep posting Dawa, you can give some advise to fellow travellers. Enjoy your new life and still keep in touch.

Yes Robyn I for one would love to hear about what other women do to while the hours away while camping. I love my quilting and am making a hand sewn quilt that has been half way around Australia, still doing it and one day I will finish it. I also like to knit and scrapbook . There should be a site just for the girly talk and I too love to read all the tech stuff but I know what you mean.

Pam

NOW there'a an idea,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,MODERATOR PLEASE PRETTY PLEASE......................................A woman's corner where women can talk craft etc.

There is a topic called Crafty Ladies. Might be in I Digress. You can also put up photos of your finished projects, comment on others or just write about what you are making.

Yeah I agree with others Dawa stay on, there seems to be a lot of non-travelling GN's here so I don't see that as a reason to leave.

You've got the whole grey nomads thing wrong again Dawa.
As you were told last time anyone can post on any thread they like. All topics are open to all members.

I'm sorry Dawa but when this is brought up all the time I get a little angry. You don't like anyone other than solos to post in solos and you won't go into the other sections for some reason.
I guess I'm a little annoyed at your statement that even as you were signing out you had never met any grey nomads at all..
I went out of my way to go to Grenfell as I wanted to meet you, no other reason.

woops, not solo and only nomadic when I'm travelling........ My parents told me I needed to work in life, so no sense of entitlement either.

Never mind, rules were made to be broken.

I admire your discipline.

I think "The Grey Nomads" is a common interest area - if you have an interest, need to know something, are travelling or want to travel - it is a place to come and ask for advice, offer advice, meet new people with similar interests! Not necessarily a "nomadic" site - reckon there are quite a few wannabe's on site also.

So Dawa - no need to leave, stay on, put in your bit, share your experiences - enjoy the WHOLE site!!!!

Oh so true ...a wannabe here, and happy about that.

You learn the oddest things at times here, what to put in your little loo, what to wash clothes with, how to calculate amps, history on podcast from BBC Radio 4, Radio National and iTunes, how to make a Kelly Kamper Kooker, make sure you know when the school hols

are on for each state, so you can avoid, what and how much to cart with you...well we all know we have to fill every cupboard or "The Borrowers" will move in, ( remember the movie? ) What to cook or not, skip fishing you only catch 1 fish per year.

Where to pull over, where to stay, what to see, Camp 7...were 20% off last week at Ray's...I mightn't have anything to get there in but I know where to stop and how to put it in the GPS that I don't have yet. Love it all

Robyn

and you turned up on my doorstep with not even an email of your intention

I don't regard you as a nomad as you are not full time.;

My dictionary says a nomad is a person who wanders and has no permanent home.

I tried using the 'camps' book when I started out but found it of little use as i used to stay a minimum of three weeks in each spot.

Just a wandering nomadic life-style

Who cares if someone is a nomad for one week or 52 weeks a year, has grey or pink hair for that matter, has a MH or Caravan, Campervan or tent. Most contribute helpful information.

This quote is from the front page of The Grey Nomads website - think it just about covers what we are saying about ourselves????!!!!

About The Grey Nomads

If you are one of the growing army of grey nomads discovering, or hoping to discover, the joys of the open road in this wonderful country, then this site is for you. Whether you are a baby boomer travelling indefinitely, choosing to spend the winter months up north, or simply enjoying a few short trips a year, you are part of the growing grey nomad community in Australia. Whether you are travelling in a caravan, motorhome, campervan, camper trailer, fifth wheeler or a tent, this site is the place to read about people like yourselves and about the issues affecting the grey nomad lifestyle in Australia.

" hoping to discover " sounds good to me.

I used to go off and stay at pubs but it gets tiresome every night parking behind yet another pub and carrying your bag upstairs,

beds not always very comfortable, when I was tripping around doing family history...lots of cemeteries, and country towns and the wonderful...countryroads

I have found a spot to settle and grow some veggies; maybe a few chooks even.

Have planted a couple fruit trees and some native shrubs to bring more birds.

Found a church in town that suits me as well.

I shall be selling all things to do with travelling.

Time to sit under a tree and spin some wool and do other craft.

This is a peaceful spot with no close neighbors. biggrin

You have my email addy and if any of the women wish to join  'gypsy crafters' group you would be welcome.

I am amazed that my simple au revoir and thankyou has made so many people post.......even a couple I had never seen before.

Good to see

My health continues to improve as I take life easier than it was on the road.

Planning some improvements to 'THE HUT" to make it a little more comfortable.

Life is good and I am happy and content.

That's good Dawa - but you have made some friends who follow your journey through life on here - don't abandon them - stay a member - keep in touch - you still have an interest in the travelling - just because a new chapter in life is starting, it is good to be in touch with the things you have enjoyed in the past.

I won't join the craft group - don't do anything crafty - I used to make silver jewellery, and cut and polish rocks - but this nomadic life that I lead now makes that very difficult - no room for the machinery required - but I still am interested, and keep in touch with my old gem club friends and follow their travels looking for the perfect specimen!

Dawa,

I don't think it matters whether you stay on the forum or not, your decision to make.

I think you hit the nail on the head with "Life is good and I am happy and content." That is what matters!
