Wallabadah south of Tamworth

Had a day of waiting, set off and arrived in Tamworth mid morning and let the GPS take me to the Obrien's workshop. So now that I knew where to go at 2pm I took off to the nearest Macdonald's and an hour later left to look at Camping shops, looking for the sun/privacy screen to slide into the awning.

Eventually 1.45 came round and I took the bus in for the new windscreen, there had been adverts previously stating that new wiper blades would be fitted with each new windscreen. Of course that didn't apply here in Tamworth so I walked to the nearest auto store and bought 2 new blade assemblies and took them back for a free installation. Then waited some more for the bus to be completed.

All worth it in the end with a new windscreen gracing the bus I took off down the New England Highway for Wallabadah Camps6 #183 some 50kms away. Someone years ago thought that it would be a good idea to create a memorial to the First Fleet and there it is large as life right next to the camp. It consists of groups of what look like tombstones with names marked out around a bigger marker nominating the ship, there are groups for each of the ships as well as a huge sign discussing the First Fleet and nominating not only the convicts but the officers and crew as well.

There is a sign stating 24 hours stay is allowed and requesting a donation of $10 towards the maintenance costs, don't think many will donate $10, I would be happy with a gold coin donation. The facilities are good with flushing toilets but the showers have been put out of commission, There is plenty of room here and large rigs would be easily accommodated. I was pleased to see the same camper there from Bundarra and Bendemeer and also met up with Chris's brother Tony with whom I spent many hours in various Townsville camps.    John

Looks another great spot John. I'm further over in the west at Westmar. May stay a couple of nights to do a bit of washing and have a nice hot shower, free.
Washed the van with a bucket of water from the showers earlier. Amazing what you can get done at some of these camps.
I didn't get any wiper blades from O'Briens in Bundy when my window was replaced either.
Thinking of a trip to the Nindgilly pub when I leave here then on to Lightening Ridge.

Marj,

We could coincide around Dubbo, I am heading for Mendooren and I don't know how for how long. Then down to Carcoar Dam near Blayney. See how it works out.  John

Love that pic with the sails, John. I also appreciate the way you include a wide view in some of your shots to give a good sense of scale.

We found it a good spot - Walabadah - and as you say $10 is a bit steep - most people when we were there, put gold coin donation. Interesting reading about the first fleeters, to see if any relatives were listed! None of mine were!!

Hello Jonh, getting closer. Would be good if you & Marj travelled together. I had a wire come off the Sola, they replaced the sola panel. All good other wise. Patty

Would you believe we are in Dubbo
. Had to make a flying visit on Sunday.
For what turned out to be a false alarm.
Leaving in the morning for home.

We're leaving Maroochydore on Thursday hopefully heading down to Carcoar (there is a friend of ours parked up there at present). Not sure how long we will take but maybe we will catch up there, you never know. Regards Alice

My broad plan is to stay 2 nights at each of the following;-

Camps6 #443 Mandooran Tuesday Wednesday

Camps6 #491 NSW Carcoar Dam Thursday Friday

Camps6 #795 NSW Bethungra Dam and Reserve Saturday Sunday

Camps6 #294 Vic. Green Bank Murray River Reserve Monday Tuesday

Then off to Greens Lake arriving Wednesday

We all know what happens to the best of plans but that is my projection.  John

Have had good reports on both of those places you intend to visit, see if they fit in next time.  John
